Need help with 67 Chevy van
I know this is not the right place, but can anyone here direct me to where I can get help with a 67 Chevy van? I just bought this G20 (Heavy Half) for a father son project. It has a G10 5 lug rear axle but the original G20 6 lug drum brake straight axle. I'd like to convert it to 5 lug and disc brakes.
Thanks https://scontent-ord1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...a9&oe=56215771 |
Re: Need help with 67 Chevy van
I dont have any answers for you but Im in to see this ,love those vans .

Re: Need help with 67 Chevy van
It has a solid axle front end? I saw a 66 p van that had independent front suspension. I wonder if that would fit after removing that solid axle front. Cool lookin van. You know we're gonna need more pics of that shaggin waggin

Re: Need help with 67 Chevy van
Don't know much about these either but always thought they were cool. I didn't know they came with v 8's always thought they were all 6 cylinders. Or was it? Whenever I see one of those it always makes me think of the mystery machine in Scooby Doo. I knew a guy that had one of those about 30 years ago and he put a car type 4 speed in it. It was rigged up to shift 4 speeds on the column but then he had a lever rigged up for reverse that was on the floor under the front seat. Not sure how that worked out for him in the long run but always thought it was funny.

Don't know much about it mechanically but do know it's cool

Re: Need help with 67 Chevy van
I also did not know they came from the factory with a V8 but have learned a lot about them already. 67 was the first year for the V8. It's a factory 283 three speed heavy half ton or G20. The G10 came with a straight 6. Later in 69 they offered the 307. the 63 - 66 only had a I6. They even offered an automatic trans in 69/70! but all the others were 3 speed manual. A 4 speed shifter would be a challenge

Re: Need help with 67 Chevy van
it has an HEI distributor but other than that it's pretty much stock

Re: Need help with 67 Chevy van
I wonder if the straight axle would be the same as a 1959 pickup? If so you could get a conversion from CPP possibly. I doubt they were changed much through the years .

Re: Need help with 67 Chevy van

Re: Need help with 67 Chevy van
I know that they have a few van forum(s) that you can like join ...
besides that, cool looking van ( don't see many of them around =0/ ) |
Re: Need help with 67 Chevy van
That van is just plain cool !
|
Re: Need help with 67 Chevy van
Is it a "Uni-body" or does it have a frame? It might be easier to re-drill the rear axles to match the front. Lot's of 6 lug wheels to find these days. ????
Cool van. I like it a lot. |
Re: Need help with 67 Chevy van
VCVC.org is a good site as well. Plenty of good writeups on mII disc brake swaps.
|
Re: Need help with 67 Chevy van
thanks guys, I am registered on vintage vans, have not yet been approved for VCVC yet.
we are actually trying to figure out what the rear axle is as well. It's a 10 bolt but 5 on 4.75 bolt pattern. It has 11" drums. Well one anyway. Trying to find parts for it. Ordered a G10 drum thinking it was from the half ton but it was too small. B body Chevy's had 11" brakes on a 10 bolt so I ordered a Caprice drum, it comes in tomorrow. We will see... |

that's kind of how I came up with the Caprice drum, the one I found was a 5x4.75. It had one drum on it so I measured everything best I could.

Re: Need help with 67 Chevy van
I was told you could change an old solid axle truck (say 1950) from six lug to five lug by installing 1950 car hubs and drums. Yours looks a lot like my 51 truck so that may be possible, but I have never done it.
A G10 van axle would be correct lug pattern and bolt right in, if you could find one. |
Re: Need help with 67 Chevy van
Cool van! Just FYI I have a new van aluminum radiator in the shop that I ordered wrong and couldn't send back. I could make you a deal and I am just down the road.
|
Re: Need help with 67 Chevy van
FYI- Caprice's were 5x4.75 until 1989, the 1990 and up was 5x5. I know the 49-57 chevy car hubs will fit on the 6 lug truck solid axles, maybe they would fit on the van???

and thanks guys on the lead about the car hub. I am going to check that out!!! |
