High School Project Build II
Well we had sucess with last years project truck. Here is the link to it:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=639174 My name is Jeff Ferguson(Farmtrucks) and I teach Auto Mechanics at Hancock County High School in Sneedville, TN, where I have taught for 20 yrs. To try and get my students and more students interested in my classes, we are doing another project build. Build plan is going to be a 72 c10 "Patina" pickup, 5.3 LS, 4l60e, A/C, suspension swap, and various other things(keeping paint work to a minimum, because we don't have a paint booth) Sponsors will be recognized in build thread. After completion the truck will be auctioned off on E-bay. All proceeds will be going back to my class fund, so hopefully we can keep doing this ever year. If you have an interest in helping with this project, please let me know. Wish list: Drop slindles Drop springs Wheels Wheels Wheels Wheels Fuel tank --- Boyd Tanks Fuel Pump --- Boyd Tanks Vintage Air --- B&B Motorsports A/C Fittings --- Cold Hose A/C Controller --- Trucking Krazy (member t korinek) Retro Sound Radio --- Matts Classic Bowties LS wiring harness Headers Mufflers Brakes - everything Aluminum radiator --- Entropy Radiator Electric Fans --- Entropy Radiator Radiator support --- Jones Truck Shop Inner fenders --- Jones Truck Shop Marker Lenses --- Member - "Flashed" 72 Grill Front bumper Dash pad Rubber floor mat Radio Seat cover Roll on bed liner Short bed chrome (wood grain) Chassis paint Shocks Weatherstrip Misc nick nack stuff |

Brought truck to school yesterday to start its transformation

Re: High School Project Build II
That pickup looks like it's in great shape, I wonder if the hood is somewhere in that barn or maybe somewhere else on her property.
|
Re: High School Project Build II
We got the hood - it was layed upside down in the bed and the barn leaked and it rotted the corner of hood

Re: High School Project Build II
What a lucky group of students! I think its awesome what you do with them. Good luck on build #2

Re: High School Project Build II

Should we leave it a long bed or cut it down
|
Re: High School Project Build II
If you are going to make this into a short bed then aftermarket bedsides are the only way to go, unless you personally have the skills to make it happen because no student is going to be able to realistically take on this job unless they have been trained by a master fabricator.
I'm not trying to be negative, I'm just trying to be realistic, I know a master fabricator who took on the job and he said it was a nightmare and that he would never do it again. |
Re: High School Project Build II
Cut it, but be extremely neat with the cuts and tape everything off when you grind the welds down. Then do a little paint touch up on the original paint. It will be cool either way though:metal:
|
Re: High School Project Build II
If we cut it - we will use original bedsides - if we screw it up, then we'll buy new bedsides
|
Re: High School Project Build II
In for this one too. Kids don't know how lucky they are.

Re: High School Project Build II
All the guys are wanting to shorten the bed - and that may be what we do
|
Re: High School Project Build II
I like long and short beds but since you plan to sell it like the first one short would probably bring more $$$.
|
Re: High School Project Build II
I'm in! Love a short bed, but long beds are useful too.
|
Re: High School Project Build II
This is really cool. My high school's shop class was lame, it was all book work so I never bothered taking it. I would have signed up for your class in a second.

Re: High School Project Build II
Will you have enough time this school year to make it a short bed? With the snow days last year did time get tight on completing that truck?
Which is worth more and will sell more easily, a long bed or a converted short bed? |
Re: High School Project Build II
I think we should have enough time. I believe a converted short bed will bring more

I'm in for #2.

Re: High School Project Build II
I am a long bed fellow as well, but I agree, in the interests of making money for the kids, short is the way to go.
I sub'd for the last one and in for this one as well. Once you have an idea of what you need, post up some lists and maybe a shipping address so that those of us that want to help can do so from afar. Not sure how or if it would work or be legal, but maybe a gofundme account? I know that schools are funny about donations like that. This is a great thing that you are doing. I hope the kids know how lucky they are. |
