I started this thread to replace the one in the message board( http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=681394 ) That thread was to ask what people thought of my crazy idea. THE IDEA: 4 Door mega cab, Mid bed (long bed cut up front to match the rear length). The donor truck is a 2000 7.3 powerstroke 4x4 with a 1 ton frame. I bought a 1990 Chevy Suburban and the rear portion of a single cab and put them together over the weekend. The outside color will be electron blue. The interior will be from a silverado 07-13 LTZ. The wheels ill get are bmf novakane death metal with 35x12.5x35's. This will be far from a Show a truck so please don't expect an immaculate garage queen. It will be a daily driven truck used to go fishing and camping.

A Frankentruck!

If this were my project, my wife would be taking bets on what runs out first, the energy or the $$ :-)

No me and my girl live by...."what's mine is hers and what's hers is hers." We live happy that way. She leaves me be to work on my cars though and don't really care what I spend my money on.

Killer project. Be careful with that LTZ dash, they are prone to cracking.

I just bought the wife a 2015 GMC Sierra and I would love to have that dash set up in my truck. I'm sure wiring everything up to work would take an engineering degree.

Cab looks good so far, I'll be interested to see how it looks when it's done. I've been keeping an eye out for a cheap crew cab but they pop up often. Suburbans are cheap and plentiful, so if it looks good, this might be the way to go.

So I looked into this and wow was i amazed at how cheap that dash is made. I will be picking up a 08 Silverado dash from my friends house sometime soon though.

Re: 1990 Mega Cab, Mid bed 7.3 4x4 (Frankenstein)

Yeah, my 08 LTZ has 42,000 miles, always parked under a cover, and has 2 cracks in the dash. Ridiculous.

That dash would be nice. It cant be that bad to wire it up and reprogram. But in case i do need an Engineer my brother just so happens to be one. He actually just completely rewired his Twin turbo CTS-V...lol!

Yea I'm not a cheap person but I cant see myself buying a 2500 dollar truck that i will cut up. So 100 for the suburban and 150 for the rear of a cab, 120 for a front end and doors. I think I am doing really well.

Since I will have it out i was thinking of doing a reinforcement brace by the airbag, you think that will help?

UPDATE! I bought the front fenders, hood, core support, and front doors over the weekend all I need is a long bed and tailgate. Today we start on body work.

Yes, they need reinforced in the center mainly.. They crack by the airbag and also right in front of the driver.

So i finally got to work on the truck. in the past few days I cut the roof off a 70's F@#d and used it on the truck. I had to "Modify" the roof braces to lower them; a big hammer took care of that. I am still cuting and welding 4 inces at a time so it takes a while. I know...Here is the pictures!

I'm in for the Mega Cab portion! I'd love to see the 8' bed kept, but that rendering looks pretty good.

The logistics of a newer dash/electronics is pretty huge as I understand them. From GMT-800 to now the electronics have gotten pretty complex. Everything routes through the BCM, window controls, hvac, steering wheel audio/etc, everything. It'll be pretty badass to see all of that made to work in the square.

Re: 1990 Mega Cab, Mid bed 7.3 4x4 (Frankenstein)

I cannot not believe what I am seeing. I have been talking with my boys about doing this for about a year now. I have a rendering in my office of a Mega Cab Square body with a standard 6.5' bed. My plan was to start it in the next 3-6 months...You are starting with a suburban too, just like I'm planning...

Is the white truck in your first post real or was it a photo shop?

I am in to watch how you do it. So far it looks great.

How much did you add past the rear door?

I will be integrating the f@#d colum, instrument cluster, and hvac to the GM dash. I want to cut the steering wheel mounting hole and weld it to the Gm one to have a chevy steering wheel with a already fuctioning column; that way I retain wipers and turnsignals off the f..ff....donor truck.

I've had this idea for about 7 years now. Had I known how inexpensive this would be I would have done it a long time ago. The white truck is a rendering I did on paint. I went 4-1/2 inches back. I based it off the door handle. I liked the length of it and that it would look proportionate. I'm not fond of the short bed because it's really short in the back making the truck look like it's been rear ended. I want both sides an even length...like the f250s. One thing I'd do differently it that I would have sectioned and raised the back of the single cab about 3/4 to 1 inch above the window so my roof doesn't have a small rake back. I don't mined it cause I'm doing a roof rack so it won't be visible.

Re: 1990 Mega Cab, Mid bed 7.3 4x4 (Frankenstein)

Sorry guys. Progress has been slow these past few weeks. I sold the flatbed on the diesel truck and began working in a few things that needed to be addressed on it before the swap. But this past week I haven't touched it as I got laid off this past friday and thought it was the perfect time to open my own shop. Me and my brother rented a 40x40 old body shop with a huge carport and been working on getting that going....my first customer just left. The shops name is Performance Maddlab llc. We will mostly deal with LS powered cars and doing swaps. Im surrounded by body shops so one of those might end up doing the body and paint on the truck.
