Automatic floor shifter ?

hey guys so i want to get a automatic floor shifter for my 65 c10 its a low trans tunnel thing is .. i don't want to have to remove the trans to put in a shifter seems to me to be a lot of unnecessary work to do just for a floor shifter ... i would prefer to mount to the floor ... next is im one of those guys that like the tall rat rod look of a shifter so its kinda what im wanting to go with as far as style BUT lol all of what i have seen has this mounting system that mounts to the top of the trans and would require me to drop the trans out of the truck ... i just cant see doing this for a shifter . so im asking for ideas on how to accomplish this look and or what you guys are using for floor shifters the ease of installing them the use of them durability and such . i may change my mind to something you guys have it it proves easier to install and is durable ... also money plays a big part to lol im not made of it :chevy: Happy Truckin

gennie shifter or lokar both make floor mount automatic shifters and make long sticks too. I have a lokar in my 47 on a 4l60e and its nice, it is a trans mount type though..

***I'm subscribing to this***

I have been thinking about ordering a Lokar shifter. The instruction online you don't have to drop your trans to install it. But I don't know how much of a pain is to install without doing so.

I have a Lokar automatic floor shifter on my 700R4. I mocked it up while the transmission was out of the truck but there would easily be enough room to install it in the truck with the floor hump removed (I have a large hump). *This does not mount to the floor, it mounts to the top of the transmission.

Re: Automatic floor shifter ?

Crazy question...why don't you guys ever just go to a manufacturers website to find what you want?

Lokar: http://www.lokar.com/product-pgs/shi...p-shifter.html

Its a flat floor cable operated shifter that actually mounts to the floor not the transmission and can be had up to 23" long.

Re: Automatic floor shifter ?

That wasn't the point I was making so don't get all pissed off about it. I look first then ask if I can't find anything. To me it just seems like it was too much work to look for yourself then kept whining about not wanting to pull your trans out to mount one...I'm just sick and tired of having to do the work for someone else because their too lazy to do it themselves. You didn't ask me to do it but I did it because The whining is childish as was your last reply.

This was a little harsh of a reply. Tone things down please. If you don't want to take the time to answer a post, then don't. If you're "sick and tired of having to do the work" then it might be time to step away from the forum. The site is about sharing info, ideas and thoughts in a friendly, family oriented method. If this is not what you want to do, we can help give you a break. Trust me, I work in IT and not everyone has a good ability to search for info. You can help those folks or just stay quiet. Ridiculing them is not helpful.

Only warning on this. Thanks for your understanding.

My B&M shifter is floor mount, cable operated, and super simple to install. No tranny removal necessary!

Lokar has floor mount and tranny mount shifters with tall shifters. I have the tranny mount in my truck. If you remove the hump you can get to everything you need without dropping the tranny. Just put the floor mount one in my wifes 52 Cough Ford Cough. Just had to cut the hole in the floor and bolt it down, then go under the car to connect everything. Both pretty easy to inastall.

Re: Automatic floor shifter ?

Haha tried to hide the f word. Ya totally forgot about the small hump not coming off. As long as you can get a wrench between the tranny and the bottom of the floor from underneath to tighten the bolts then it's pretty easy. 4 bolts hold it to the floor. Then just cut out a slit for the lever to go through the floor and connect the rod to the tranny. Pretty easy as long as you follow the instructions as far as the angles. They sale an adapter to use whatever you want as knob. So instead of the push bottom you just push down on your wolfhead. I have a beer tap in mine. So you can run anything.

Been looking at a Camaro style floor shifter on my 6L80. Four bolts and the cable runs through floor with a rubber grommet. Installed trans cooler and AN fittings block column rod linkage.
