Lets see those stock ride height builds
I am almost down to the bare frame and preparing to send it out for media blasting.
As I head toward reassembly I am torn on the direction for this truck. I definitely dont want to slam it, and am favoring the stock ride height. I would love to get some inspiration from those of you who did your build at the stock ride height. |

I am thinking of putting mine from about a 4-5" drop back to stock height.I have to make my mind up in the next day or 2.I am in the process of changing from drums to discs and I am going to bolt my a arms back on and install springs very soon.I will probally just keep the drop for now though.

Here's a picture of my 69 GMC is stock height. It's getting drop spindles and a flip kit this week. In total a 4"/5" drop. It's also getting 20" Chrome Boss 338 rims.

The first pic is circa 1990, stock height. The second pic is today with a 2.5"/4" drop.

Since it's that thread, I can finally say - I sure don't care for lowered ride heights, don't know why people want trucks lower - or higher - but never factory. These 2500s have a bit of a rake to them, and those are 40-year old springs that have carried a camper and never been re-arced.

Re: Lets see those stock ride height builds
I have to say, and maybe its because I'm closing in on 50 yrs old, but the stock height looks great. I remember them when they were original in the 70's and to me its nostalgic.
While the lowered thing is OK I feel its a trend. Anyone up in years remembers the last trend......Lift it! Everyone had to lift their truck and stick 33's under them. I appreciate and respect the lowered movement, its just not for me. Please keep posting those stock height photos, thanks! |
Re: Lets see those stock ride height builds
Yup, if you live long enough you've seen cars lowered in the back, jacked up on shackles in the rear, huge lift kits, C-notches, little 10" wheels, big dubs, and everything except factory.
That's why at some point the factory setup starts to look pretty classic and everything else starts to look like it's trying too hard. Which is not to say there aren't vehicles that look better lowered, I just don't take it as a given that it's an improvement. |

Both are stock height and have the stock rims. Red one is a 68 C10, blue one is a 72 C20. I think the 3/4 tons just have the perfect stance.

Re: Lets see those stock ride height builds
I am getting ready to replace my factory sagging rear springs to bring it back up to stock, I prefer a more rugged/manly truck like stance. :)

I agree I bought a truck because its a truck, but hey if you like them lowered there is nothing wrong with that. |

I tried to find a 245/70 or even 245/75, but it's hard to find white walls at all. I think the bronze and cream truck had 245/70/15 Michelins on 8" wheels. I can get a bigger tire in a Vogue, but they have the gold stripe. I used to run vogues on the wifes Seville but I'm not sure about a truck. I even thought about painting the gold stripe black which would leave me with a narrow whitewall. |

Stock all the way. About to replace front springs with stock height. I went back and forth for almost a year on whether or not to lower it but once I put the 70s looking wheels I knew it had to stay stock

Re: Lets see those stock ride height builds
This would be stock height if the engine was in it! What's funny is I have owned my other C10 long enough that my tastes have changed. After all the work I completed dropping my truck, I don't like the thing anymore and would prefer it to be near stock height with a slightly leveled front end. I have a cummins diesel in a lowered truck, not too usefull besides massive burnouts at 40mph.

This is mine with stock ride height. I like the look of these trucks lowered but I do like to slide in and out of it without having to lift myself out. Part of getting older I guess.

Re: Lets see those stock ride height builds
I'm enjoying this thread. If I ever finish mine, it will be stock height. The only way mine will ever be lowered while I own it is by loading 1000lbs of stuff in the back to move from one place to another. No offense is intended to those who like lowered trucks.

The brackets are. The round mirrors are replacements from LMC, but were just like the originals...but without the rust. LOL
