Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
Hey guys I've been lurking around the site for about a month or 2 now and finally feel like I have enough progress to start a build thread.
|
Re: Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
So I picked the truck up around November off a family friend 1951 Chevy 3100 1/2 ton. Was told the truck was all stock minus the funky interior, 12 volt conversion, and that it ran and drove 8 years ago before he parked it.
Checked everything out looked in good shape so i snagged it for 3 grand. http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psguorkkay.jpghttp://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psiaonvqwd.jpghttp://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psdedulboy.jpghttp://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psnwxffk1v.jpg http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...pslyyzz5ey.jpg http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps9pdatr03.jpg I was planning on building the truck in phases while keeping it drivable between phases. Original plan was mustang II, 4 link rear, bags then eventually v8 swap. But first on the list was getting the straight 6 running and driving again and service the brakes. So ran to napa to get new oil filter and fluids they had 2 oil filters listed so i just grabbed both. $100 bucks later I'm back at the house pull the oil filter and neither are the right filter and that's when i realize its not the original motor. My dad is pretty sure its a 235 and I'm clueless to the motor size. So I figured might as well just change the oil and see if i can even get it to turn over. And that's where things started to snowball..... |
Re: Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
I threw a battery in the truck turn the key and hit the floor starter, the starter spins but doesn't engage. Couple hits with the hammer fixed that try again motor spins but won't turn over. I remember the previous owner telling me something about the ignition switch is messed up.
So ill just by pass the switch and jump the coil that's when i noticed the burning smell under the dash so i disconnect the battery. And find a whole bunch of sketchy stuff... http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psoqdofvkc.jpg There were about a half dozen wires like this running thru the firewall no grommets wires snaked thru the front support that doubled back that were pinched between the fender and splash shields. I have never seen such a tweaker wire job in my life and I've seen some sketchy stuff on air ride and stereo installs I've had to trouble shoot before. But after removing all the fire hazard wiring i got the truck to turn over and idle for a couple seconds (i just poured some gas in the carb) Now to remove the electric pusher fan they had on the truck along with the mechanical fan. Well just removing the electric fan i must of bumped something because it started leaking coolant and that's where i noticed all the jb weld used to patch the radiator. Great one more thing i have to buy now... That's when i started doing research on front suspension for this hoopty. I was looking at mustang II and being from the offroad world nothing about the mustang II seemed right the lower tubular arms looked sketchy and i would end up adding more bracing in the cross member double sheer the lower pivot points etc. I just couldn't justify spending 2k on front suspension that would need to be modified more. That's where i came across this website and how much info there was on s10 swaps I knew it was a option but this forum is what really pushed me in this direction. So now with the game plan changed i was on the search for parts took a week of non stop searching and calling people for a s10 long bed frame everyone was asking top dollar close to $1000 for frame. Then i came across a 92 s10 single cab long bed with a 350 swap running and driving for 2k was pretty close to buying that, when i found a frame for $300 about a 2 hours from my house. Loaded up the jeep and made my way down there. http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psn7jolj5b.jpg didn't even have to load it the guy did it for me and i didnt have to worry about stripping a truck at my already crowded house :ito: then 2 days later traded my klx110 for a 350/th350 combo http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psplvxkxpf.png Then went and picked up the other bed the guy i bought the truck from had in his barn. Bed is in great shape just surface rust so ill have that blasted and primered soon http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psruqxyyes.jpg |
Re: Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
Now i started ordering all the parts to get this frame layed out. Most of everything is already installed the 4 link should be here by Thursday right in time for shut down at work.
speedway tubular uppers new moog lowers mcgraughys 2 inch drop spindles new rotors bearings etc thorbros 4 link 4x4 blazer 7.5" axle 3:73 gears and a posi (my search for the 8.5" turned up empty) still waiting on ordering calipers cant decide if i want wilwood's or just oems for the front Chopped of the s10 mounts went alot easier then what everyone made it out to be http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psgzgt7wle.jpg Now we are up to date Friday I pulled the front clip every bolt broke off so that went fast. the front core support was a huge pain the bolts were rusted frozen, but they were loose so i couldn't drill them out, couldn't cut them with my grinder because they are sunk into the support. Tried a sawzall didn't work ended up using a vise grip underneath and drilled them out. Then Saturday i wanted to tackle the cab went pretty smooth except me being lazy i left the doors and hood and majority of the interior and used 4 eye bolts thru the mount holes and some chain. Ended up chopping the shifter off and cutting the steering column because it started raining on me and i just wanted to get it done and get everything back in the garage. But got the cab off and set on my s10 frame by myself so i feel accomplished. didn't get much pictures just these. front clip resting on it http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psmq6he6xq.jpg Figured might as well pull the front clip apart it wasnt aligned good to begin with and got my fenders bolted up. I'll chop the front frame rails either today or tomorrow and try to start the body mounts also i have all the material i just need to either have my garage wired for 220 or go to my brother in laws. http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psw9idbs7n.jpg |
Re: Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
I'll hang around for the build, doing good so far...Jim

Re: Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
Looks like a really great start. Keep it up!
|
Re: Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
what did you do to get the front end wider? are the Speedway &
Moog control arms, wider than stock S10? |

But i also don't have the front support in so the fenders could be pinched in slightly and the cab might not be perfectly squared up i just have it resting on 4" blocks for now. Everything looked pretty close tho. But it looks like i can get away with no spacers with 15x8 reverse pattern supremes like i was planning. |
Re: Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
Looks like another nice old bolt being brought back to a more glorious life. Lookin good sir.

Re: Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
Great start. I am tagging along.

Re: Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
I am digging the interior
|
Re: Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
Right on. Looking forward to this one

Re: Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
Small update my thor bros 4 link showed up on the 24th and i got about 50% of it installed that day. Spent close to 3 hours on removing rivets alone drilling them was actually alot easier then trying to cut them out :ito:
Still have to relocate the lower leaf perch 8" back for the lower links. So just the uppers installed for now I wanted to glassbead the perches before i install them so I'll do that on break at work today. And should have them installed today. And the kit came with stover nuts for everything so i didn't put them on since I plan on having my link bars copper or nickle plated. But everything will have stover nuts, torqued to spec, and torque sealed on final assembly. So with the cab 4 inches off my frame i shouldn't need a notch or have to de-hump lower control arms and lay my running board about 3/4" from the ground. Cant get over how my 1/2 of a truck looks laid out haha http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psz2xxgw6u.jpg OSHA approved work boots. Rear bag mounts, sway bar mounts, shock mounts I think I have them figured out just need my garage wired for 220 to start welding everything. :waah: http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psbspk9ogo.jpg And this happened last week to my money pit :banghead: Riding to low thru a local meet and when i went to park i cut the wheel to hard, tire grabbed the fender and folded my fender in. Total amateur hour :tim: worst part of it all i had to pull the fender out by hand because it was resting on top of my tire. I've never seen my girl cringe so bad she was honestly more bummed out about it then i was but then again shes the one that won't let me sell the car and she actually gets excited to go to meets, guess I'll keep her around. And I just had the car painted about 4 months ago with glasurit base and 8 coats of glasurit clear and I added a bunch of metal flake, so i cant pull a fender from another car and just slap it on. Luckily i ordered extra paint so that needs to get fixed asap my rim lip taps it constantly now and every other day i have to shove a news paper in there to pull it back out. And i tapped the curb the week prior and have yet to fix that, thank the lord for polished aluminum. I've been driving this car way to much lately http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...pslz6dokub.jpg But I did take it to Vazquez rocks without zero issues drove down a mile long dirt road to haha some of you may recognize the rocks in the background. Flinestones, star trek, etc all had scenes filmed there http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psfxzmllft.jpg http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psbzclbqxb.jpg http://www.elevenshadows.com/travels...ornfaceoff.jpg |
Re: Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
That the same 4 link thats in mine. Its a nice setup, the worst part is all the damn rivets to grind off. haha. Your truck is looking good, looking forward to see it come along.
|
Re: Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
I'll keep an eye on this progress. Nice looking project.

And if that ain't the damn truth about the rivets the drill helped alot even tho i killed 4 cobalt stub drills and a half bottle of cutting oil. Any updates on yours? I'm excited to see a body on it your frame is lowwwww Quote:

Re: Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
I'm equally as exited to see the body on mine, just have to find the time to do so. I need to put a patch panel in the pass side kick panel area before I take the cab off. I need to get a weekend where the wife won't complain. haha.
|
Re: Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
Great start already
|
Re: Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
great start man ill for sure follow your progress. good luck
|
Re: Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
Subscribed also. What are you planning to do with the old rolling chassis? I maybe interested if you decided to get rid of it. I am just down the road in OC, but my 3100 is still torn apart at my parents house up in LA.

But I'm not even sure what they are really worth. I'll let you know I need to make up my mind its just sitting on the driveway with the motor bagged up and the bed is starting to become a dumpster for s10 parts haha |
Re: Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
Cool. I would take it as a roller with the full drivetrain installed. I modded my '52 frame a longtime ago, and am thinking about going back to stock with it. Also, as you said, I was thinking about finding a 3 window cab and put my modded chassis under that.

Re: Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
Small update if you can even call it that i guess
Chopped the front frame rails about a 1/2" after the steering box and bolted the grille up. http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...pselb2zzo3.jpg Also picked this up Friday was going to go with a Lincoln 180hd figured I'd spend a little more and get something I won't out grow. And I'm in love that's all i have to say my wallet says otherwise. I wish I picked one up in December when they had their $200 off deal but I got a killer deal on cyberweld and they have 6 months no interest with paypal cant beat that. http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psnwytoxu4.jpg Finish welded the cab mounts and smoothed them out came out nice got the front mounts tacked in passenger side mount tacked in. And have cut the rear drivers mount off twice now. First time measured the passenger side between front and rear mount then rear mount to factory s10 bed mount I left. All within 1/16th of a inch so i clamped the mount tack it in, measured everything was good. Lower the body down go to drop a bolt thru the mount is 1/2" to far back to align with the cab hole even tho everything is dead on between mounts so chopped the mount off. Then bolt the mount to the cab drop body down leveled the cab and centered the cab tack it in measured now I'm a 1/2" off between mounts even tho all 4 bolts drop in smoothly and everything looks straight. Didn't like that so off with the mount again. There's a couple things i can think of that's causing it. 1. s10 upper bushing cup is really rusty and it might not be centering since the holes in the poly bushings are oval slots 2. either my cab or frame is twisted some what 3. I'm more buzzed then I think I am when I'm measuring :b69: 4. I need to quit being lazy and actually pull the cab instead of putting it on jack stands when I'm putting mounts on so i can cross check measurements 5. my hole saw might of shifted when i was cutting the bushing holes I have some things to check when I get home I really think its between the hole saw shifted, the bushing cup throwing it off, and me being stupid thinking I can do this with the cab being on the frame still trying to rush things. Hopefully that all makes sense |
Re: Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
Your truck is looking great so far. I like the stance!!

Re: Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
Little update spent all day Saturday installing air ride on a 350z ended up missing the nutserts for the rear bags so finished everything minus the rear. All I can say is that car blows to take apart way more interior plastic panels then my Infiniti, and it took longer to put back together then it did for me to line and wire the system. And my hands are covered in cuts from the stupid panels just have to put the nutsert and rear bags in, calibrate the system, set the presets and its finished.
But did get to work on the truck Sunday afternoon, wasn't even planning it until my brother in law sent me a pic of his nova clip installed on his Apache. Crap need to get back in the lead! Made a lower U frame for the radiator support the side stands bolt to it and its all 3/16" angle iron and plate. Ended up making two risers off the frame with some scrap C channel. Thing that sucks is the passenger side frame rail slopes down right where I needed my pad to land so i couldn't make each side equal height. I spent close to a week thinking the best way to do this. From using a weld in bung on the frame but if that ever strips I'm screwed, to the route everyone seems to take with the lower bar but i think i cut my frame horns to far back slightly, this route just seemed the best way to me. Happy I just did it and got it done. Now time to mount the bed and running boards, bed should go quick running boards I'm not looking forward to. But at least I'm done cutting plate steel with the wheel of death I'm pretty sure. But the way I made it, it has tons of adjustment. I can pinch my fenders in by putting washers between the side stands and u frame. I have about a 1 inch side to side movement and height adjustment i can drop it 1/2" by flipping the bushings or raise as much as I need using fender washers under the bushing cup as shims. Everything is square, level, and lines up perfect. And you can't see the mounts once the grille is on and the hood lines up and latches and unlatches nicely even with the front clip being loose. So I must of done something right. http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psdttrkfwl.jpg Today I need to pick up some shorter grade 8 bolts cut the driver side tab and straighten it some and add a gusset to each tab doubt its needed I can stand and jump on each tab with no deflection but it will make it look better. I think I went slight over kill on it. I'll post a better pic tomorrow with it completed that pic makes it look like a complete hack job with the 7" bolts and crooked tab. |
Re: Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
Little update no pictures tho since my phone cord seemed to walk off my desk here at the shop so I'll do a photo dump tomorrow for anyone that cares.
But I ended up cutting off the drivers side core support tab straightening it and adding gussets in. Made my running board mounts made them bolt on instead of welding them to the frame. Got the bed mounted that was a headache I had to cut the bed more to clear the 4wd calipers and the bed is about 3/4" higher then were it should be but i ended up dropping the front of my fender down and tweak my splash apron slightly but it all works out. Rolled my rear fender lips to clear my wheels 15x8 2 inch backspace supremes with 205/75/15 has credit card clearance when you use the 4wd blazer rear end. They fit the fronts and comes within MM of the fender brace, but I'm going to order the 15x8 3.625 backspace for the front and run a 205/70/15 and a 1" spacer should work out perfect. The 2" back space looked awkward with that deep of a lip on the front only downsize is I can't rotate tires now. Waiting on parts to show up now Little shop mfg no toe steering kit since they have $150 off right now, new splash aprons since the jackass who worked on the truck before me thought welding them to the bed was smart. And i need to order a new bed front panel mine has a really bad bend in it, whats funny is that it matches the radius of the cab perfect just backwards like this )(. And order my front wheels they are in stock at summit just tired of spending money to give myself headaches haha |
Re: Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
Well rtinniste, I care. Anxious to see the picture of how this rad support ended up. It is another idea that no one I know of has built before. Thanks for sharing. Clay

I like pics.

Re: Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
Sorry for the lack of updates nothing really ground breaking on the truck kinda slowed down some on it. Thought i took more pictures but here's what I have.
I ordered 2 15x8 reverse offset supremes so I can test fit originally i wanted to run the same size all around but something about the lip size looks off on the front and with a 205/75/15 it barely clears the front fender brace when the truck is laid out. So they offer the same wheel with a 3-5/8" backspacing instead of the 2" back spacing. So I plan on running that up front with a 1" spacer and a 205/70/15. This is with the 15x8 2" backspace http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psrxd7phbh.jpghttp://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psmargifjx.jpg Got my running board mount done just have to drill holes to bolt the running board down. They bolt to my frame using 7/16 grade 8 bolts with nylocks and the base plate is 1/4" plate. **pic is before i added the triangulated gusset's** http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psmyrbrx5a.jpg I really should spend some time building a welding table using 2 trash cans is getting old trying to balance crap then weld it haha. Honest opinions on my welds? I've been teaching myself over the past couple weeks and staying away from the millers autoset feature, I always try learning using manual settings on everything before touching any auto features because you end up relying on auto features. The only welding experience I had was off a junk harbor freight flux core 110 unit I used to make wrought iron doors for my bbq island and what I read online or on youtube. Still want to take a couple classes at the college for mig welding and tig. But my weld profiles seem decent I'm getting good color on the backside with no burn thru. I really need to force myself to slow down I've noticed and I need to work on hand motion keeping my beads straighter I've been running my visor on the lower end of its settings or I might just need better lighting in the garage. http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...pscz4idrkn.jpg Got the bed mounted but ended up about a 3/4" higher then it should of been grrrr but it was easily fixable by enlarging a couple of the holes and tweaking the splash aprons slightly. I hate it but it works and its not noticeable knowing me I'll probably redo it. No pics of that process. **fender wasn't bolt on** http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psiytif9jj.jpg But my little shop mfg no toe steering kit came in wasnt planning that just yet but they gave me $150 off because it was some over stock from their last group by so i jumped on it. Rear wheels fit perfect with the 205/75/15 had to flatten the fender lip slightly, it cleared before but was credit card clearance and if there is any side to side play with the 4 link it will hit so now I have almost a finger space there. Also took the brace out of the rear fenders I saved them but i doubt it will need it. http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psant8tr07.jpg And that's where I am now as of yesterday. Prob wont have a update for a week or two the Infiniti is going to be back under the knife soon. It needs brake pads and my rotors look like crap from rust on the rotor hats. So might as well upgrade for this season. So I've been collecting parts that I need to swap over the akebono sport brakes from the 2010 g37s for a factory big brake kit. Front brakes go from 2 piston 12.5" rotor to a 4 piston 14" rotor setup Rear goes from single piston 12" rotor to dual piston 13.8" rotor setup Still need my stupid fender fixed and repainted and planning on changing to a full titanium exhaust setup and still debating new wheels since I'm bored of my current wheels and I can squeeze something a little more aggressive in there still. some pics of that POS if anyone cares http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psjsyoiicg.jpg http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psbw86qydc.jpg And Clay I'll get some pics of the rad support when I pull the front clip when I start mocking the motor up. |
Re: Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
Thanks for remembering. Appreciate that. Clay

Re: Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
The wheel selection on your truck looks good. You have some nice looking welds going on there too.
|
Re: Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
Awesome stuff. Love the truck and Love the car. I was looking at one before I found my truck.
Can't wait to see bags all finished. |
Re: Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
welds look sharp! might turn the wire up a hair, its hard to tell in the picture if there is any undercut, but looks like you got the motion down. penetration looks good too from the heat marks.
truck looks great, bet you excited to get it on the road. |
Re: Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
Wheels look good and welds look good, just takes practice. I agree with Joedoh bit more wire or slow down a little.
|
Re: Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
So my front wheels should be here today. And I have this itch to pull the front clip and start mocking up my motor and trans I need to go pick up s10 2.8 motor mounts to see if my jagsthatrun motor mounts work out. And I need to clean out the cab seems to be storage locker and I think half my tools are in it since my tool box seems kinda bare.
Fingers crossed that I actually do something to this truck besides stare at it today. |
Re: Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
Been slacking on the updates been almost a month! Here's a recap been a crappy month kind of
The weather has been amazing the desert is full time spring mode right now. So seems lately my weekends I've been out of the garage wheeling which is a nice change. Except i work on the truck about 4 hours a night. http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps0psxaahf.jpg http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psdw1ldr4i.jpg http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psowonvgg5.jpg Scored a sand blaster and flame proof cabinet...... Except the dodge decided it wanted to DNF on the 5 freeway bringing it home. Pretty sure it collapsed a lash adjuster and spit out a rocker arm. So I'm still unsure on what I'm going to do my garage is at maximum capacity right now so its been sitting. Mopar mo problems leaves you with no car. :waah: http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...pswjywawrq.jpg |
Re: Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
Now on to better stuff I decided to mock the motor up. Had to trim the fire wall to gain some trans clearance. (i have no pics of any of this so use your imagination)
That's when i started finding more fiberglass in this cab noticed the floor pan and fire wall were starting to split minus needing both cowls rearcab corners. So I started looking around craigslist, military auctions, yacht trader, the Russian black market. Well ended up finding a cab on craigslist says in decent shape no bondo minor rust located in Ventura county about a hour from me for $650. So we hopped in the car on a Saturday hauled ass down there checked the cab out. It was clean two rot spots the size of a nickle in the rear lowers and a dent on the roof. Ended up scoring the cab for $450 bucks. Cruised down on Monday and picked it up. Took forever to get home tons of rain and in the canyons its started to hail then snow. Got the cab washed for free since we are in a drought and everything. Made it to the local watering hole for celebration cervezas. :ito: http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psjebxr92b.jpghttp://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psxg20id29.jpg Told you my garage is packed http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psridpwlxo.jpg Since the weather has been nice and my truck is dead I've been using my hog for a parts store runner lol. Forgot how wrong this bike feels riding around on the streets and it takes me way longer to get home since i always find myself taking the scenic route  http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps270wp82a.jpg |
Re: Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
So now i have my motor set in place pulled the crap cab off. I had to figure out the trans cross member situation. I'll be completely honest this drove me insane 2 weeks of staring at my frame asking myself why and thinking about my life choices haha.
I didn't want to hack the stock s10 cross member, didn't care for any pre fab universal ones, the driver side frame rail step drove me crazy. So i decided I'll just tackle it myself and wing it and I'm glad i did i love the way it came out everything is flush with the bottom of the frame. I had about 4ft left of 1x4 .120 or .150 (cant remember off the top of my head but its some heavy stuff) wall box steel left from my running board mounts. Cut it to width then started trying to figure out mounting tabs. I didn't have much 1/4 plate left laying around but i did have a pair of stock shackles from my dodge. And go figure the leaf springs are 4" wide so quick hack with the chop saw i had my mounts. I'll let the pics speak for themselves **not grade 8 bolts, ill be replacing everything with grade 8 shanked and cut to length bolts on final assembly** http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...pskpemjtef.jpg was thinking about making it a k member to stiffen the frame up http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...pshvtvthoe.jpg overlapped the welds in the corner looks ugly http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psvv9vyn6v.jpg http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psuqqifbqs.jpg tail shaft sits right at 4.5 degrees down, but i need to go up to the higher hole on my motor mounts (starter motor is to close to the frame and might tap the frame with engine twist) and add a spacer on the trans to get it back to 4.5 degrees. And this is how she sits now waiting on headers and center knock offs to arrive. Used some satin frame paint to spray bomb the frame so hopefully that works and the cab might get dropped on today. I'm still debating on media blasting the cab since every panel on my truck is a different color and I doubt I'll be able to match the patina haha. Oh and I'm going to have to c notch and dehump control arms I'm about 2 inches from laying running boards on the new tires. Also the drive shaft isn't bolted to the diff it clears the brace by about 1.5" when the truck is all the way up. The length is also pretty much dead on i think it came out of a late 60s early 70s c10 long bed, I got it with my motor and trans. http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psk1s4fy5r.jpghttp://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps9mdiirni.jpghttp://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psjn1fr0tc.jpg |
Re: Wtf did i get myself into 51 s10 swap
Made some more progress yesterday if you can even call it that, feel like I've been taking 2 steps forward 1 step back lately and making zero progress.
But the motor is bolted in, trans bolted in, mounted headers, painted the frame under the cab, and got the rot free cab on hopefully this is the last time. Modded the stock column drop to raise the steering wheel up an inch or two and pushed about 3 inches closer to the dash so from the looks of it ill be able to keep the stock seat stock column stock steering wheel and still be comfortable. The motor mounts from jags that run and patriot clippster h8036 headers work perfect. Valve covers are about 2 inches from the fire wall plenty of room for the dizzy hopefully there's enough room up front for an electric fan seems like it when the front clip is on. Only issue I see is my brake lines that will go to the booster that will take some tweaking to work. Still have alot left I want to have it running by may but i doubt it will be. Still unsure about what to do about the truck being 6 different colors i was quoted 600 to media blast the cab bed and tail gate but that's out of budget as of right now Running boards are 2" off the ground and drive me insane so guess time for a bolt in c notch and dehump the control arms. http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psoouzyryh.jpg http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...pslotaz6ko.jpg and at the end of the night i had the front clip mocked back up dont mind the 1975 dumpster i mean c10  http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...psz8bhen0r.jpg |
