Question about flip kit

I see that the part that the rear end sets in has a hole in it and it's off center does that hole go back of the rear end or the front?:chevy:

Re: Question about flip kit
Hole to the front, the axle has to go back for the driveshaft

Re: Question about flip kit
I just installed my McGaughey flit kit and the hole goes to the front.

Cant wait to see it lowered.

Re: Question about flip kit
You can totally cut the coils when you're doing spindles. Most guys lop a full coil off.
I prefer the tops of the tires even with the top of the fender edge, so I cut the coils until it sits at that height. |
Re: Question about flip kit
What's the backspacing on those back wheels? If they are less than 5", you may have some clearance issues with a flip.
|
Re: Question about flip kit
I'm not sure.I'm planning on new wheels and tires.

Re: Question about flip kit
Backspacing is the distance the mounting flange to the backside of the rim. 5" will tuck.
Pictures (front: Belltech 3" spindles, 1-ton coils, 1-3/4 coils removed. Rear: flip kit, heavy leafs.): http://img.photobucket.com/albums/09...pse7e3baa5.jpg |

Sweet looking truck.:chevy:

Re: Question about flip kit
3" spindles with one coil cut off of stock springs in front. Flip in the rear. You have to be careful with backpacing when dropping low like this. Not that it was much of an issue in this case because my wheels are pretty skinny.

I have a flip kit in the back, currently cut coils in the front, about 3 (or more) coils cut out of the stock 1/2 ton springs (they were cut before I bought the truck, and the literally fall out with the front end of the truck on jacks). I got drop spindles and what I was told were lowering springs when I bought them, but I now believe they are stock springs. When I put the drop spindles in, I think they're 3", and the flip kit in the back I think is a 4-5" setup, I'm hoping the truck will more or less sit level given that it likely had a slight rake when it was stock. If it ends up dragging it's rear a little bit that's ok too.

Re: Question about flip kit
Make sure you trim the bottom of those u-bolts off!
|
Re: Question about flip kit
But leave at least half an inch, in case you need to shim the axle to correct any pinion angle issues.

Re: Question about flip kit
Buy drop coils. Don't mess with cutting them.

Countless guys, myself included, have been cutting one coil off of stock springs for decades and been completely satisfied with the results it gives. |

Didn't have money for spindles then, do now. But like the results. Clip 2 and flipped out back. |
Re: Question about flip kit
Why is the hole off-set? If the axle is centered below the leaf pack on the tie bolt. What would change if it were centered on the top side of the leaf pack ? The reason I ask is that I bought axle perches , which have a center tie bolt hole, u-bolts and lower plates at work. All for under $50. I planned on flipping the axle, use the new perch and weld axle to perch, after setting the right pinon angle of course?
