Re: Billet 60-66 Door Handles
These are awesome! Just wish they had the door locks also..
|
Re: Billet 60-66 Door Handles
They look nice but a bit pricey for me. No door locks either. Unless we can use stock door locks.
|
Re: Billet 60-66 Door Handles
Those look cool for a custom for sure! I dont think the stock locking button would look very good with the billet though.

Re: Billet 60-66 Door Handles
$300 for door handles that don't even have a smooth finish or locks? I've have purchased entire vehicles for that kind of money.
I wish someone would make a decent reproduction of the original that uses the original locks. All that is available is either ill-fitting Taiwanese garbage, or way expensive overkill. |
Re: Billet 60-66 Door Handles
The stock door lock would not look good on these door handles. Yes you can buy cheaper door handles that look just like everyone else's door handles, but these are more for the guy who would like a totally custom look. The cool thing is that they can easily be disassembled and polished or painted the options are endless. They are just not everyone's cup of tea.
They have gone over really well with the 67-72 truck guys. https://scontent.fphx1-2.fna.fbcdn.n...90&oe=58228EBE https://www.gsimfab.com/uimages//minimadeinusa_t.png |

for some China is the only way to go. it is always easier to trash something than to say I can't afford it!

I get the same reaction to my work frequently and usually i just mark it up to ignorance and not mine. I know where my market is and it is more than likely within 1/4 of 1%. the more tactful will say I can't afford that , it is not within my budget, it is not what I am looking for and that is the way the world is made up. every so often though some one reaches in their pocket and makes my day. then you get these ones, "what a rip off", "not worth it", "too much money" and you know it is a different class of person talking. there a lot of people that make specialized stuff, limited in production or 1 of a kind. it cost more to make. I would imagine that he has a limited market for those handles. ron |
Re: Billet 60-66 Door Handles
That's a good outlook to have, GSIM. No malice intended. It's nice to see someone making a higher quality handle than the other crap that's currently available. These just aren't my thing.

And though I should not indulge you by addressing your snarky comments, I never implied I could not afford anything at all. I simply meant a pair of late 90's Boyd Coddington looking billet handles are not worth $300 to me, and provided an example for cost comparison. If that's your thing, then by all means go get you a pallet load of 'em. One of the main draws for me to this forum, besides the mountains of available info, is how friendly and cool everybody has been. I've never had a cross word with anyone on here until today. Just to clarify, I do not "internet talk" as you have implied, and have never posted anything on here that was offensive or that I would not say directly to anyone's face. If you ever make it down to Missouri I'd be glad to demonstrate in person. Pissing match over. Good day, gentlemen. |

I bought the altman easy latch and cut my doors and then found out you can't lock you doors with them from the inside! would like to be able to lock the doors, thanks! |

Re: Billet 60-66 Door Handles
new cars don't use keys and more. you just have to push that little button. perhaps the fellows that can afford those handles can spring for a little more and have electronic locks. don't imagine that it would be to difficult to install

Re: Billet 60-66 Door Handles
I really like the idea of a nice Billet handle, I would like to have a set on my build, its nice to see an American company doing something like this.
I do agree also with the comment that it is a bit disheartening to see a set of costly American made handles with no provision to be able to lock/unlock the door....that opens a whole new can of worms! An additional point that stands out in my head, and I will be devils advocate... 1) I whole heartedly understand the cost of billet aluminum, I understand the cost to program, set up and get this right for production runs, especially in limited quantities, so I see the cost involved...BUT, the piece to me looks to have a pretty "rough" finish, I have polished a box car full of Billet and cast aluminum car parts in my time and I would be willing to bet a little additional "Finish time" on those pieces and they would really look GREAT! Even the black finished set look pretty "rough" as far as material finish! With the above being said, if they were smooth finish, either satin or polished with a key lock setup, I'd be all in for a set! I like what they are doing, just seems to need a tiny bit of tweaking! |

Re: Billet 60-66 Door Handles
Great Ideas Guys
The main reasoning behind not adding the door locks was the increased cost and complexity to the part. As for the finish the pictures don't do the handles much justice. They very smooth and we wanted to leave the machining lines to show that they are Billet Machined Parts not just some Die Cast and Chrome Plated Chinese parts. With some red Scotch Brite and a little elbow grease they can have a brushed look. Maybe down the road we can come up with some kind of simple locking mechanism for them. Most of the guys who have been buying them don't seem to worried about having a lock though, so we will see. It is also possible to play with some different finishing processes that might give them have a different look. |

Here is a polished door handle next to a black anodized handle. Did a quick polish job and they look pretty good.
