1968 C-20 with 67,000 OG Miles Build Log/ Thread
Hey, my name is James. Never been into america cars really, but I flip houses and I was borrowing a truck and decided I need to get my own. Ive owned a 1967 Volkswagen bug and a 98 Subaru Forester, both of which I couldnt help and modded them both. I hope I dont modify anything on this truck because its the most original vehicle that Ive ever owned. Only a few pics for now until I pull out my good camera and shoot it. Here are a couple just so we have them for before and after pics. Ill give more details on the thing in an upcoming post....
Picture from the seller before I drove across the state to pick it up: https://c1.staticflickr.com/4/3849/3...3d3caa23_c.jpgUntitled by James Webber, on Flickr In Spokane, WA about to head back to the westside: Fuel stop: https://c1.staticflickr.com/4/3674/3...273a1292_c.jpg68 c20 by James Webber, on Flickr Motor Before picture: https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2900/3...ccb185f2_c.jpg68 c20 by James Webber, on Flickr Okay so now I'll note some of the things that I have done to the car, I have replaced all the coolant hoses, replace valve cover gaskets, painted valve covers chevy orange, painted the air cleaner black, removed the farmtruck side walls on the bed, installed a cigarette lighter to charge my phone, just gave it an oil change today, new radiator cap, new windshield wipers as the ones I bought it with were OG, yeah you read that right, OG wipers of all things. I have only had time to buff out one section of the paint but the paint on this thing is going to be epic when buffed. More Pics: New vs old heater core (the og one cracked on me and leaked coolant when I put the new hoses on): https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2515/3...3e8ca3c8_c.jpg68 c20 by James Webber, on Flickr Inside the blower and heater core chamber, 50 years of pine needles in this thing!!!: And here is a pic of it parked outside one of the properties I am currently flipping: Like I said, once I buff it out Ill take some good quality pics. I will make sure and do some before and afters also. I also ordered new exhaust manifolds and gaskets so Ill likely have those installed soon and painted silver, because the ones on there now are rusttttyyyyy. Thats all for now. |

Re: 1968 C-20 with 67,000 OG Miles Build Log/ Thread
That thing is crazy nice- really glad to see it's in good hands! You're right about the pass. fender not being original paint, looks like someone replaced the fender at some point with a 67 fender (no marker light). It does match the original paint- looking good!

Okay question? Whats the deal with the red bow ties? Its like that on the side markers as well, but the hubcaps have yellow bowties? Are the caps incorrect or was chevy just inconsistent with bowtie colors. if the caps are wrong then what style do I need? Also I need that chrome trim that goes on the fender for the passenger side? whats a good parts dealer i can order through via online? |
Re: 1968 C-20 with 67,000 OG Miles Build Log/ Thread
Those are newer caps, I am running the chrome version of those on my 67, mine are off of a 75 C20. 67/68 were unique, I don't have access to a pic at the moment, though.
Also GM did change from yellow to blue, not sure which years though. 67/68 were red I believe, but I may be wrong |
Re: 1968 C-20 with 67,000 OG Miles Build Log/ Thread
good info. im a volkswagen guy so I dont know anything, just trying to soak in all the information that I can. What are people running to hold their spare tires under their truck beds??? :)

Re: 1968 C-20 with 67,000 OG Miles Build Log/ Thread
Check out this thread http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...eelsespecially post # 9 a post # 13. IMO, original trucks deserve original rims. 16.5 tires are still available, and worth a few bucks more, but finding original 16.5" wheels with clips will require some doing. If you are as serious about the "look", they can be found.

Re: 1968 C-20 with 67,000 OG Miles Build Log/ Thread
damn, calling it a night for now but spent the evening doing a little engine detailing since i had to replace the manifolds as they were cracked...
Just for comparisons sake here is the engine at the start, minus the valve covers and filter: https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2900/3...ccb185f2_c.jpg68 c20 by James Webber, on Flickr And here are some progress shots from tonight, i spent yesterday painting the wheel wells and also spent some time spraying some black onto the frame, but still needs more love and time on the frame: https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2927/3...ff434cf4_c.jpgUntitled by James Webber, on Flickr New manifolds: https://c1.staticflickr.com/4/3687/3...c39480c4_c.jpgUntitled by James Webber, on Flickr Painting the manifolds also the heat shields for the plug wires: https://c1.staticflickr.com/4/3889/3...270cf800_c.jpgUntitled by James Webber, on Flickr https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2668/3...767f7bde_c.jpgUntitled by James Webber, on Flickr Cracked ya think? https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2634/3...a8a481d4_c.jpgUntitled by James Webber, on Flickr While I had them off I might as well spray a little orange on the block right? https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2858/3...edfe6fae_c.jpgUntitled by James Webber, on Flickr https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2466/3...768d37a5_c.jpgUntitled by James Webber, on Flickr Finished for now, still need to bolt up the drivers side manifold to the exhaust, tricky little area to do in the dark, Ill get some better pictures once I get the alternator bracket reinstalled https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/262/32...a2b382a3_c.jpgUntitled by James Webber, on Flickr |
Re: 1968 C-20 with 67,000 OG Miles Build Log/ Thread
You may want to look up a member 65standard , he had a press made up to put the marker light hole into the rear bedsides , should also work on that 67 front fender , would make a welcome upgrade / repair to your very nice truck.

Motor buttoned up. Had to take it to the shop to fix one of my exhaust leaks on the y pipe cuz I didn't feel like doing it after awhile messing with it. 50$ later it's all right again. Motor picture attached

Where can I buy a quality carpet kit? Who makes one in like a teal or green color that'll match the truck nicely?
