New K5 parts coming soon!
Let me say right off the hop, THIS IS NOT A FOR SALE post.
Just an announcement... This has been a few yrs in coming. Lots of false starts, little kids, work blah blah blah BUT they are finally ready! First up is 73-91 rear sill scuff plate. NOS has all but dried up on these. These are thicker and built to last. Far more complex than the '69-72, it took more than a "few" tries to get it right. I tested against 12 trucks and 17 strips including NOS. These weren't perfect from factory so I got as close as I could. I have some out in the field for R&D. Waiting on reports back. They will come with correct GM small head #8 screws. Pix are of the test mule. Before... https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4802/...9a442538_z.jpg After https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4773/...ab3432d2_z.jpg Profile. Top is GM bottom is my plate. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4776/...74f798c3_z.jpg Second is 73-91 interior bedside blanks. These are geared toward the those who need to restore and/or customize the panels. NOS are long gone and the repos are not very attractive. Need ton of speakers? Fix what GM gave you? Got you covered. Save time and energy with these. Factory screw holes are located so no guess work. GM made them with fiber board which just turns to mush once wet. Won't happen with these. These too have been tested against 12 different trucks 74 thru 91 to ensure a proper fit. Again good ol test mule is the model. These are a work in progress. I have a really cool version I'm working on in addition to these ones. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4800/...4a3d7147_z.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4782/...bcec5c27_z.jpghttps://farm5.staticflickr.com/4787/...23a2c072_z.jpg Comments? Suggestions? PM or post up. I have more in the works for our trucks. Stay tuned. |

Irish did a great job on these. They're perfect! I got an early example and it fit and looks perfect. The finishing touch to my '74 Blazer

Re: New K5 parts coming soon!
Sorry about the upside down picture. Don't worry-I didn't roll the Blazer....

Re: New K5 parts coming soon!
Those look great! Nice work Irish, those are much needed items in the K5 crowd and should sell well.

Re: New K5 parts coming soon!
Thanks! Was quite a bit of work getting everything just right
Im pretty picky about parts & fitment, so good enough wasn't an option. Hopefully the bedside blanks will fill in between soggy GM panels and poor repos. Better pix of Frenchy's install. I think it looks pretty good in there. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4791/...f899fbf6_z.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4778/...b4306117_z.jpg |

Re: New K5 parts coming soon!
Sill plates are done for now. Waiting to hear how these new tariffs are going to hurt.
Supplier said could be as much as 20-30% to offset the losses. |

Re: New K5 parts coming soon!
Not trying to be a pain but are the side panels Luan or 1/4" marine grade plywood? If Luan, that material normally doesn't holdup well to moisture unless sealed with a good water repellent. Also, your picture looks like it has about a 1" gap over the wheel well. So my question is, what grade and type of material are the side panels and is that a gap over the wheel well and, if so, how does it affect final look? Just wanted to ask questions before ordering.
|
Re: New K5 parts coming soon!
Yep Luan. Def has to be sealed or painted prior to being covered. Marine ply is $65 a sheet vs $20 a sheet here. It would have pushed price up too high for the finished product. Luan far more stable than the pressboard GM used on originals.
Marine ply still needs to sealed as well. Wood that stays wet will just rot. Seal it and keep it dry, lasts forever. The gap over wheel well is allowance of carpet on the tub and the roll over of whatever upholstery is on the panel, just as GM did. Not an inch, more like 1/2". Panel wasn't screwed in so it may look bigger than it really is. These were made using NOS panel as the template so they are spot on for fitment. All moot anyways as don't think I'm making anymore. Thanks for asking though. |

I still need to check my rear sill plate. Those look awesome, although I'll never figure out how you make'em. Looks complicated to say the least. Thanks for the reply. |
Re: New K5 parts coming soon!
Actually shipping isn't bad. Around $35-39 to east coast. Its only 1" thick so works in favor with Fedex.
Sill plates are a PITA to make to honest. The bends aren't bad. It's the radius that's hard. Plus you need to do it in order. Bends? Radius? Arrrghh. I have a skid of aluminum strips I'll make you a deal on... |
Re: New K5 parts coming soon!
PM me details. Ever thought of selling patterns for the sides? Might be a good idea if you have a way to print something that large.
|
Re: New K5 parts coming soon!
Pattern idea passed thru my head but then what if they cut it wrong and blame the print out. Not into that.
Plus by time you get the ply, trace, cut and finish the time spent is what I was charging. And this way I control final product and fit. ;) Im playing with a new metal version that has storage compartments for the hardcore adventure guys. Not ton of room inside there but more than enough for tow straps, cables, small tool collection etc.. The skid of strips comment was in reference to the screwed R&D trim plates. Going to recycle. |
