- Retiring -

After 39 years and 7 months I will be separating from General Motors. They offered a “package” and I took it.

Last day in the office was February 7th; there will be a period of transition and then I will morph into retirement after that.

I’ll need to find something to do in order to keep the lights on at home but haven’t picked a new direction yet.

Congrats to you..I won't be retiring any time soon. I have worked for myself for the last 28 years. No package for me.

Congratulations Keith on the accomplishment. Are you planning to work or do focus on hobbies?

Congrats, Keith! I've been retired for a couple of years now,...I hope you find it as fantastic as I do!
YES, you will need hobbies, classes, volunteering, or self employment to keep busy!! It's your choice,...that's what's GREAT!
Now you'll have more time for the forum!
Hope all goes well, and keep posting here,
Todd Compton.

I can’t thank you enough for your contributions to this forum Keith!

I wish you all the best in retirement but please don’t end up getting fat and sitting in front of the TV, stay active!

I've thought about this and still can't find the words.

But, there is always a need for skilled people. And if you get really bored I've got these old trucks that need love.... and rocker panels.

It seems to me that the young folk these days are always looking for something else to do and never stay too long!! I for one love my job and when I turn 60 I'll have 39 years 8 months at the same job!! Like I said I love my job!!!

Congrats Keith,
I retired at 59 (unwillingly mind you) but after a bit I am now very pleased. Don't know how I had time to work. Everyday is a Saturday. I am certain you will find something to keep you occupied.
Cheers

Congratulations Keith! Retirement is a great (although I unretired for the last 4 years part time as a Town Supervisor). You will soon feel like you don't know how you got everything done when you worked full time. Have fun and enjoy life.

I second this!

I hope the "package" was good and will allow you some time to figure out what your next direction will be. :chevy:

Re: - Retiring -

Kieth, Sorry that I am a little late on this. I retired in 2015 and took a year to decompress then decided I was bored (mainly because I needed/wanted more money for toys) and went back to work... I retired young (44yrs old) so, I am sure that had a lot to do with it. I'd like to echo everyone's praise toward your contribution here. I learn so much from your posts and value your opinion... I am sure that knowledge can be used in a way that brings in more money on top of that retirement. I am a born die-hard GM fan so, just having access to your brain is a blessing!!! Good luck, Congrats, and when you come to Hawaii look me up! - Frank

Congratulations Keith - even if it was unplanned ahead of time, you get to have a little more fun now with the next journey! You could probably release a series of books with what you know and have learned over the years at GM.

Thanks for always being an encyclopedia-on-demand for this forum, and I can't wait to see where you go from here!

From: A random internet fan.

Man, I’ve been retired 20 days and I’m bored as hell. Snowed like every other day. Prob gonna get at least a part time job. Was pretty stoked to retire at 49 but too cold to work in garage and only get my kids 1/2 the time

Congratulations Keith! It's been a big part of your life and I hope you got a good chunk of change to enjoy and explore the next phase of life with. Maybe even enough to get another square body to work on? Thanks for all of your input here.

Congrats Keith, that's awesome. I retired once, got a second 'career', now work twice as much as before - I'd avoid that trap if at all possible ;)
Enjoy, obviously quite an accomplishment. Did the "package" include a trailer full of old Truck Data Books? :)

Re: - Retiring -

Congratulations Keith, you have earned your retirement and then some. Something to occupy your time helps with not working everyday, i about went crazy until I found something, so working on my truck, or fishing / nature walks helped. I also hope they gave you a fat package, and a truck load of stuff to share.

That's Awesome! Enjoy every minute of it! I do hope your retirement is limited to GM and not the forum, your knowledge on "Squares" is unmatched.

I'm 32 years in (UPS) and would like to do 3 more, but I might retire tomorrow. LOL

One thing is for sure, I will not die wishing I'd spent more time at work! :metal:
