Side vent door - diagram?
Hey guys, I wanted to retain my driver's side vent on my AD - see relevant picture: https://i.imgur.com/vypgrns.png
I have the door, but the hinge hardware was lost by my painter. I'd rather not have to go back and fill this panel and repaint. Are y'all aware of any parts diagrams for this vent? I don't even know what I need to make it whole again. Any help is appreciated. Edit: pic is not of my truck; just for illustration. |
Re: Side vent door - diagram?
Do you still have the piece on the inside aka hande inside?
My internet is a mess right now and I can't get to my photobucket where I have a couple of photos stashed. I can go out and get better photos of the one on my cab though and take it off to get photos as I need to remove it anyhow. |

i went out and the screws were too stuck to turn with a small screwdriver.
The door should have the bracket spot welded on the back of it. Bracket being red arrow. The screws (orange arrow hold it to the piece that is permanent in the cab. The handle fastens to the top of the bracket with two screws (green arrow). |
Re: Side vent door - diagram?
Love using my side vent. Hope you can get yours back and running.

The only thing I'm not connecting here is what those orange-arrow screws are attaching. It looks like there are two springs (and maybe another retaining bracket for the springs?) mounted using those screws. IT also looks like the non-threaded holes in the door bracket are used to hook the springs. I think that's what I'm missing. My door has the bracket still spot-welded on, but there's nothing that lines up with those two screw-holes (orange arrows from your picture). Here's a shot: https://i.imgur.com/GTePMkM.jpg?1] I did find the handle, though! |
Re: Side vent door - diagram?
I've got to spray mine with some PB Blaster to get it off.

Looks like this guy is trying to get rich off the AD truck guys all at one shot but the photos show you what you are missing. https://www.ebay.ie/itm/Chevrolet-tr...QAAOSwuhhc5cRz
If that doesn't come up here is the photo I snagged off it. |

It appears I don't have the internal part of the panel that this fastens to (the orange screws). Can you help me out with what's in there, so I can try to fab something up. I was thinking of a C channel type installation that attaches to the back of the door-hinge pocket. My truck is in Epoxy primer, so I would prefer not to have to weld on the cab unless its a must. |

Thanks Lee.
This picture makes it look like that bracket is welded to the lip of that channel. Can anyone confirm? |

I will look for that and take pictures. |

A larger bracket to bolt on from door pillar is possible, but would need to be pretty beefy and then might flex the pillar rather than seal tightly I think it is worth the effort, I love the cowl vent and I am sure would enjoy the side vent...but I have a 52 |

Re: Side vent door - diagram?
The picture in post 10 of this thread looks like it has the part that should be welded to the truck still attached. Maybe the bolts were stuck so they just wiggled the entire door until the welds failed, maybe what happened to yours too.
Between post 10 and 15 it looks like about a 45 degree angle. My thought is this angle is not critical, hinge closes until the door door seals and from the look of it opens until the handle hits end of the slot. Vertical position has to match the vent door into opening, but that is not so hard to get right. Couple cold tacks you can break loose if needed, test fit then weld it solid. Do you have the hinge, springs and handle? |

Probably no help because the weld bracket is missing. Attachment 2430501 Attachment 2430502 Attachment 2430503 Attachment 2430504 Attachment 2430505 |

I hope to have a chance to hunt for that Vent soon. I do not think it has that bracket on it? Hope this helps. :chevy::chevy::chevy: |

In the next few days I will try to find that vent door. I am almost positive it does not have the lever on it. :chevy::chevy::chevy: |
Re: Side vent door - diagram?
I went through this with my truck. The bracket was in the bottom of the cowl cavity. The welds were no match for the door springs, it’s a poor design. There is a hole on the vent right side channel, the bracket has an embossed shape that lines up with the hole. That gets the bracket in the right location, but it doesn’t address the angle. The way the spring is, there are two positions, open and closed. I figured the bracket on mine needed to be mounted at 55 degrees. I found out the hard way when at first I had welded the bracket closer to 45 degrees and the door wouldn’t close flush. I’m not a pro welder so I used bolts to mount the bracket. There’s also the foam gasket that goes in the channel, but with everything aligned the spring clamps the door shut. There is a picture of my 55 degree mounting template in my build thread post #167. I hope this helps.
