Who would have thought my new DD would have over 200,000 miles
1 Attachment(s)
Because of the COVID19 and how it has effected business ... the company sold my 2016 Colorado as I have not been traveling much as plants are closed to sales people ... plus our sales have tanked.
I started to look for a used trucks and I was hit with sticker shock. Since my wife needs a new van I did not want to spend a lot of money. I found this 2004 Sierra with 208,000 miles for $6300 but... it was from SC which meant zero rust and little 4x4 use as the lettering on the 2 Hi and AWD buttons have zero wear. I have put about $1500 in mechanical repairs and now it runs like a top. I am going to replace the valve cover next week as the original GM design contributed to oil consumption. As said who would have guessed my new Daily Driver and work truck would have over 200,000 miles and be 16 years old. If Chevy is built like a rock... then GMC is built like a boulder |
Re: Who would have thought my new DD would have over 200,000 miles
I have a 2005 Colorado with over 130k on it. Other than normal stuff and a thermostat that went south on me, the truck has been awesome. These little trucks are perfect for the SF Bay area, easy to park, decent gas mileage and it hauls what I need it to with little issue. As I think about retirement and what I am going to do, my wife has been bugging me to get a new truck. My inclination is to go back to a newer Colorado, but I am thinking of getting a small trailer to see the country with and the towing capacity may be an issue. But, other than that, I have been very happy with my little Colorado. RR

Not that I know of. My old 2002 WT has over 265K on the original tranny and never an issue. The guy that bought it from me says he is just waiting for it to fail, but in 49K with him it has been flawless. Never can tell with 4l60s.

Re: Who would have thought my new DD would have over 200,000 miles
A buddy ran the 4L60 in his 1996 Buick Roadmaster Wagon for well over 300,000 miles.
The body gave up before the driveline. |

If there was ever a truck that you can put as many miles on and fix whatever you want this is it.

GMc slogan was 'We are professional grade '. Nice pewter pickup. I always liked that color. And being a 4x4 is a plus. I usealy avoid 4x4s because they are all beat up and rusted out whare I'm from. Hers my 07 classics. WT. slowly making it a SLE.

I got my 02 suburban for $1900 a couple years ago, everything working, paint nice, interior decent. Did have 275k on the original engine and trans though. Now it has 295k on them :metal: |
Re: Who would have thought my new DD would have over 200,000 miles
My 05 has 370k on the OD. Purchased it with 270 for 3,200. Dealership thought it needed a motor, needed an oil pump. Just had my biggest repair to date and that was just an idler arm.

Re: Who would have thought my new DD would have over 200,000 miles
Congratulations! The yukon my swap came out of had 220+k miles. Had a new engine because of an injector seal failure causing diluted oil but that happened at 180k miles. New engine is in my C10 now.
And, I just picked up a 2003 Suburban 2500 with 172k on it - interior is worn out but drives like a dream. |
Re: Who would have thought my new DD would have over 200,000 miles
Cracked dash covers can be a pain in the neck to find a replacement for.
Door panels can be fixed if someone damaged your door pulls or switch panels. There's a guy that goes by the handle Vehicor on youtube that shot a video of repairing broken GMT800 door pulls with sheet metal. Cloth, vinyl, or leather replacement covers are fairly easy to install. You get what you pay for in seat upholstry. The butt foam on the LH seat can be replaced with a piece that will hold up much better than the original. The Seat Shop calls it Durofoam. |

Re: Who would have thought my new DD would have over 200,000 miles
good luck with your new truck, I like it!
my '02 gmc was the dealer burnout demo model, I got it with about 80 miles on it.. about 195k on the clock now no complaints.. even with some major repairs I think I'm still ahead going on 16 years without a car payment :metal: still looks decent for a driver but I ain't really picky anyway, kind of attached to it now  couple of years ago next to my '12 gmc company truck, got close to 50k on it now :gmc2: https://dl.dropbox.com/s/ohywo83nxrl..._3752.jpg?dl=0 definitely earned its keep https://dl.dropbox.com/s/xmprarzyqrv...04787.JPG?dl=0 2200lbs :sumo: https://dl.dropbox.com/s/r4jgxtw3zvn...0load.jpg?dl=0 https://dl.dropbox.com/s/0s2yv5yle01...crete.jpg?dl=0 https://dl.dropbox.com/s/nr9m641o84w...20lbs.jpg?dl=0 and loves to tow! https://dl.dropbox.com/s/0d2iyuxdqjy...C1500.JPG?dl=0 https://dl.dropbox.com/s/vhh0tkwz70a...024sm.jpg?dl=0 https://dl.dropbox.com/s/vvflj5pn4q3...05607.JPG?dl=0 https://dl.dropbox.com/s/82jvcx19w15...49516.jpg?dl=0 |
Re: Who would have thought my new DD would have over 200,000 miles
My current daily driver is a 98 F150 with 312k miles that I paid $200 for with a blown rearend. Put a used rearend in it and been driving it since. Ive done regular maintenance on it and just did intake gaskets on it. Runs great but gutless. Trying to upgrade to a 2000 GMC 1500 2wd with a 5.3/4l60e and 164k from a friend.
