1967 Chevy pickup casket
5 Attachment(s)
My winter project has been repurposing some old bedsides that had lower rust into my future casket. It’s been a little more work than l thought, but it’s coming out like l hoped. Some people think it’s cool and others think it’s morbid. I’m almost done, just need to finish the lids.

Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
I’m humored by the idea, impressed by the novelty and craftsmanship, and perplexed by the motivation.;)
But again, nice work. |

Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
SWEET. Closest thing to being buried in you truck.:gi:

Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
I love it, but as someone that has carried hundreds of caskets, make sure you reinforce the handles more than you think you should. I've had some flimsy ones start to co.e apart while we were carrying them to the graveside.

Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
brake and reverse lights incase your going the wrong direction lol.
|
Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
That’s way cool. Great workmanship. Just curious if it will be acceptable. With all the laws and such. Now I have a use for the bedsides I have been walking around. I’m seeing options of a cooler also. Again great workmanship

Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
You even did a houndstooth interior,,, Simply Fantastic!
|
Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
I gotta ask,,, did you get in a few times to make sure you fit?
|
Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
Awesome work! I’m still a young guy and Hope I won’t need one of those for another 50 years but that is something I’d be honored to be buried in!

Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
That's what is meant by thinking (inside) outside the box. I personally think there is something in the water. Good job, and when the time comes have a good trip.

I'm curious to know the weight compared to a regular casket. I have thought about building mine for quite a while but I was going to use wood with a few of my old silver dollars set into it.. I was going to use it as a curio cabinet in my man cave until I need it. If I'm going to do it I better get on it.... :) LockDoc |
Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
Nice work. Will be cheaper then digging a hole for the whole truck. HAHA

Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
Make a fiberglass version , I bet they would sell. Heck people would be DYIN' to have one.

Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
I love it!!!
But one issue, it needs a functional tailgate handle and tailgate so that the precious cargo can be loaded correctly. Seriously, I love the idea and imagination into this project. |
Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
Ashes to ashes , Dust to dust , But in that metal box your just gonna rust !
:smoke: |
Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
Nice work!

Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
Thanks for the positive comments! I’m 55 and in good health, so I shouldn’t need it for a while. The idea of dying doesn’t scare me since Jesus has me covered, but I do hope to enjoy life for awhile. I looked up the standard casket dimensions online and went off of that (yes, I’ve been in it a few times and it fits nicely:) ).

Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
Can you open the tailgate from inside?
|
Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
It's amazing how our bed panels lend themselves to a standard look for a casket. Excellent work! If it were a 57 Chevy casket...it would look way too quirky and obvious that it was a dead "car guy", but yours actually looks very traditional. Tastefully done!

Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
My boys fight over which will get my truck, so I told them I am going to be buried in it to try to end the argument.
They told me they will have me cremated and put the ashes in the ash tray. That way, they can bury me in the truck but still drive it. Ah, filial devotion! |
Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
So cool! What about finding an old roof skin for the lid? Drip rail and all. That way, you wont get wet if you have an open casket viewing in the rain. Sorry.

Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
Interesting ... but the cure to death is coffee. Lots and Lots of coffee :mm:
Nice work by the way. |
Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
Have you thought of adding a seatbelt for the occupant?;)
|
Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
Reminds me of a friend who built a casket in high school shop. he outfitted it with speaks and a stereo and used it to chill in.
|
Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
Man, I love it! I once told my wife I wanted to buy my casket and use it for storage until I needed it so I could get some usefulness out of it before my time. Needless to say, she didn't agree.
This also eliminates one decision your family has to make at the worst time to make one. Good for you. |
Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
I would need to have a patina done to it and corvid on it somewhere
|
Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
Looks killer! (couldn't resist) Now if the woodgrain bedrails were strong enough to mount on the sides to carry.
Nice work. |
Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
Awesome work!

Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
That's nice work!!!!

Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
Ah!!!
I see it's a 67 (no marker lights...LOL)! Put it on Craigslist for $25,000 dollars, I would NOT be surprised if someone paid full price for it, especially if they are going to be needing it!!! ALL the emotions that get churned up when someones about to lose their place in this life, can be extreme. Final expense spending can go crazy, a lot of folks have it to spend, and want to BEST for their loved one!!! Something to think about!!! |
Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
That's cool! If you could incorporate a 67 hood with the hinges for the lid, that would be way cool! And a lot of extra, work of course! Ha Ha!

Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
needs a horn - with a pressure switch in the lid

Nice work ! My close friend Rick Smith passed last month from Covid. He owned a ran our local NAPA store, fantastic individual. Ran dirt track organization for years. When I attended his funeral I was taken back for a moment when I noticed no casket . He requested a coffee can for internment. Subtle for appropriate for Rick. I will miss him dearly.

Re: 1967 Chevy pickup casket
I am loving this thread - good job on the casket. My imagination is running wild.
I'm "only" pushing 60, but with an elderly mother and an elderly mother in law (that lives with us) we are having a lot of end of life discussions. Quote:
I attended a memorial service for my friend Steve.. He passed away suddenly of a previously undiagnosed heart condition. He was 61 years old. Steve and I worked at the GM Milford Proving Ground together. He was a mechanic through and through, with an affinity for engines and machines of all kinds. The memorial was held at his farm, about an hour north of where I live. The family had asked any of us with "hot rods" to drive them for a small display. I thought it would be fitting for me to drive my '87 pickup, since that's what he and I worked on when we were together. They also had his '67 GTO, his wife's '69 Chevelle (it was her car from before they were married) and his '72 Chevy pickup parked out in the grass. Many of us heard Steve say, on more than one occasion, "...after I'm gone I want you to run my ashes through a Chevy big block, running at 4000 rpm. I want to see what the inside looks like." He even recently reminded one of his buddies: "you're gonna take care of that, right?" Well - his memorial was the day. At the end of the service they fired up his '72, which has a 396 in it, and ran it up to 4000 rpm, while pouring some of his ashes down the carb throat. I sniffled a little. A hot rodder to the very end. K |
