Anyone use OC Auto Carpets? (Auto Custom Carpets)
The guy restoring my bench seat recommends them for flooring. Whatever their product, I'd like something "first rate".
I'm looking at the orig. black loop with the "mass backing". Perhaps that's all the floor needs, but then again, they have a set of sound deadeners too. Maybe they go well together. They have what looks like really nice floor mat options as well, and fuel tank cover that might be an upgrade, though I'm leaning to match the original. Speak of, recommendations for an original replacement in-cab fuel tank cover appreciated. Edit: Just got off the phone with their rep., she's first rate. Their carpet kits are made in the USA by Auto Custom Carpets. https://www.ocautocarpets.com/cart/ |

If you’re going AAC I found the best place to buy from is Rock Auto . I got mine from them . Mass backing loop was much cheaper than anywhere I looked

Re: Anyone use OC Auto Carpets? (Auto Custom Carpets)
i've used ACC for years, never had any trouble unlike the one Trim Parts Carpet set i bought that's in my 67 wagon, don't know what i was thinking that day???maybe i wasn't,it's junk.the carpet in my 72 Cheyenne truck is from ACC along with their carpeted mats, made from the same carpet as their sets and with a nice prickly backing that keeps them in place and not skating all over the cab floor.i've never bought extra underlay, just what comes under the carpet and always a 100% happy.can't go wrong there.

Re: Anyone use OC Auto Carpets? (Auto Custom Carpets)
Well, that’s too bad. I guess I’ll have to look for a grommet now.
Now you would think that they would include one for our C10’s. It’s never one and done is it?:waah::lol: |
Re: Anyone use OC Auto Carpets? (Auto Custom Carpets)
the grommet for the dimmer switch has always been in any carpet i've used or sold?call ACC,i 'd bet they'd send you one,

Re: Anyone use OC Auto Carpets? (Auto Custom Carpets)
Ok fingers crossed ;)
Let’s see if it comes with a grommet from RockAuto/ACC. If not I will definitely call. Thanks mr.mud1 |

Re: Anyone use OC Auto Carpets? (Auto Custom Carpets)
I first ordered from TMI.
I was totally disappointed when it showed up in multiple pieces, and even more disappointed after I installed it. To explain: I thought I had ordered a one piece, high hump, along with the carpet for the back wall. (No tank) What showed up was three separate pieces for the floor pan, and another piece for the back wall. The way the three pieces overlapped was unbelievably ugly...with no way to hold it down. My Son gave me his floor mats to try and hind the “seams”, which, when I tried to remove the floor mats, the teeth on the backside STUCK to the carpet, and pulled it out along with the floor mats. So, out with that crap, and I immediately ordered a full set of carpet, including side panels for the kicks, and the back wall. Guess what? It was a one piece molded carpet that fit awesome, and looks even better. I also ordered floor mats with the “GMC” logo on them. Zero complaints with ACC. |
Re: Anyone use OC Auto Carpets? (Auto Custom Carpets)
I used ACC also. Came with grommet but you has to cut the hole. I also put sound deader in and it’s well worth it. I installed it inside the doors also. It is worth every penny.

Re: Anyone use OC Auto Carpets? (Auto Custom Carpets)
Guess I'm the only one who didn't get the grommet, oh well, stuff happens, i still think ACC is great company, they got a bunch of samples out to me quickly and were great answering my question to ensure I was ordering the right stuff.
I ordered through one of their distributors who only gave me 3 days from "receipt" of the carpet to make claims. Well, receipt for me was Seattle. The freight forwarding company I used from Seattle to Anchorage takes another week, and it was another week past that by the time I noticed I didn't get one. I suppose I could've tried, but it wasn't worth the hassle for such a small thing, esp. since I wasn't 100% sure one should have been included. |

I've used ACC on a number of projects with good results with the exception of my current 80 Camaro project. Many creases that I thought would come out over time but no luck.
Pic of the insulation I added to my 68. I only used the ACC floor carpet on my 68. I used what's called trunk liner on the back wall of the cab. Got it at a local fabric shop for about $20. |
Re: Anyone use OC Auto Carpets? (Auto Custom Carpets)
I ended up ordering the floor loop with mass backing, their loop gas tank cover, and floor mats. 615 with shipping.

Yeah I just ordered my mass backed carpet also. Let us know about the molded gas tank cover and their matching floor mats when they come in. There has been some favorable posts about the newer molded gas tank carpet and how a forum member here worked with ACC to refine the fitment. Would like to know more about how it is installed to the tank and back wall. I was also looking for positive comments on ACC’s matching floor mats. ACC offers custom embroidered logos. My truck is Hugger Orange and White, so I think Black mats with one their several Orange thread colored Bow Ties would be a nice touch. Thanks, Sam |

Re: Anyone use OC Auto Carpets? (Auto Custom Carpets)
Im in the process of laying down 80 ml kilmat and plan on also buying acc carpet any recommendations on what works best for heat ordering it with mass backing or no backing and using 1/4 Dynaliner over the kilmat?

Re: Anyone use OC Auto Carpets? (Auto Custom Carpets)
Just a follow up for everyone who orders an ACC Carpets kit for their C10/20/30’s
My carpet kit with mass backing came in and it is definitively a quality carpet. I posted a question about the dimmer switch grommet being included. Unfortunately I didn’t get one in the box. I called ACC asking if the grommet is an included part of the kit and they said yes, it should have been. One phone call to them and they will send you a grommet. Tip of the hat goes to ACC for great customer service.:metal: Thanks all for your posts, Sam |

How thick is the carpet you ordered with the mass backing on it?

Thanks again mr.mud1,

I will say this though, the carpet is heavier/stiffer because of the heat molded rubberized mass backing. It has the jute padding also. From all the info from many posts on this forum, everyone says the mass backing lays, forms well when installing and they say they are happy with it. The added thickness offers better insulation and sound deadening. Hope this answers your question. Others may chime in, Thanks |
Re: Anyone use OC Auto Carpets? (Auto Custom Carpets)
I just bought a ACC floor mat made from the original style loop black carpet in my 72 GMC. My carpet is original and in pretty good shape so wanted something to protect it and look original. Very pleased with the quality of the product, but wish it had the vinyl protector patch on the drivers side so it would look like an original carpet.

Re: Anyone use OC Auto Carpets? (Auto Custom Carpets)
Mine was just a floor mat, not the full carpet, but I see no reason why they couldn't have the patch on the mat. IMHO it would look much better if it did.

the complete carpet sets come with the vinyl pad and the dimmer switch grommet, although we just heard of a fella that didn't get a grommet and had to call but the carpeted mat sets like i bought, don't have the vinyl pad, never did.did you buy a set of mats with the prickly backing meant to sit on top of the carpet?

Re: Anyone use OC Auto Carpets? (Auto Custom Carpets)
Just a question on the carpet length. I'm not running a gas tank inside.
Does the carpet go all the way to the back of the cab ? Thank you |
Re: Anyone use OC Auto Carpets? (Auto Custom Carpets)
Yes they offer both style lengths of carpet.
With gas tank in the cab and and a longer carpet without (removed) tank. |

I got the one piece mat with the rubber nibs on the back. Ordered through Factory Interiors and was surprised (and happy) to receive a mat from ACC as they have a good reputation in my experience. Was not given the option for a vinyl pad and on the ACC website it appears that they don't offer one. Here's a pic of my matt. Very happy with it other than no vinyl pad.

Very nice, That would be a great wear and tear option to offer a heel pad on the ACC floor mats. My 1999 Silverado had that heel pad on the GM carpeted mats, it helps. The one piece mat looks like it fits nicely over the trans hump and I would guess it adds a little more noise/heat insulation. I still need to decide on mats for my C10.;) |
Re: Anyone use OC Auto Carpets? (Auto Custom Carpets)
I've installed a few of the ACC carpet kits and one of their vinyl kits. The ACC kits are pretty well made and finished with a hemmed stitched wrap around the majority of the carpet kit. You have to trim where the door sill plates go. The carpet kits did come with the grommet. It was loose floating In the box and even under one of the flaps at the opposite end of the box end I cut open. So double check the entire box! So you have to cut the hole for the grommet. I just laid it out on the floor pan with dimmer switch installed into floor pan In stock location. And with NEW SHARP RAZOR knife I slit an X over the dimmer switch until I could just barely squeeze the switch through the carpet. This left 4 raised corners around the base of the switch. I lifted carpet off switching used sharp scissors or kitchen shears to basically connect the 4 corners and remove the 4 small triangles of material. Then squeeze grommet in that hole. Had to do a little trimming to center the grommet over the switch but it came out fine. Just trim little at a time and use good scissors for small amounts of material removal or a fresh new thin razor blade and something like a cutting board to have some leverage under the material. Or you might end up fraying and loosening up the carpet looking sloppy. Another really helpful tip for making holes through the carpet for mounting seats, seat belt bolts, or door sill screws is to use a hollow punch set, pair of vice grips, and blowtorch. Holding hollow punch with the vice grips, select appropriate size punch slightly larger than diameter or bolt or screw and heat it with the torch til red hot and pierce through the carpet completely and quickly. This leaves no frayed fibers or slits in the material. Just a nice melted clean hole that won't get caught in the threads of the fastener leading to a run in the carpet that you will instantly hate and want to walk away from. I also use sound deadner from Amazon. Foil backed butyl stuff. 25 Sq. Ft. Will do the entire floor pan and maybe some left over for kick panels or inside door shells. Or on or behind fuel tank or under dash. :)

Re: Anyone use OC Auto Carpets? (Auto Custom Carpets)
Heating a hollow punch with a torch to make a hole is a great idea! Easy to make out of a piece of pipe or tube of the right size and hit it with a grinder.
