My Facebook marketplace buy. Original owner shortbed patina truck.
Flushed fuel tank, replace all rubber fuel hose, replaced plugs, set points .019 and I fired right up purrs like a tomcat in a bucket of cream. Going through taillight wiring now as driver turn no workin in the back.

I want this. Anyone recommend or have anyone who have used this? That would be a starting height and if not low enough for me I would purchase disc drop spindles for front after

I've used WC 3/5 kits on 2 trucks.
Two hints to make this easier on you.
Remove the bed and buy NEW ubolts before you start.
Remove the front cap to do the front work. The front shock relocators are impossibe to put on without the inner fender being out of the way. You will also need to trim the inners to fit around them.
Check out my build thread. Not sure how well I covered it.
I might also add that I would probably consider 2" spindle drop and. 2" springs cause a 3" spring drop puts you on or very close to the bump stop rubber. A 4 would be worse.

Only reason why I was gonna go 4” front is because I got drums and no available spindle drop that I know of

You can try it, but I'm leary of aything more than a 2" spring drop on the front end. (Maybe I just had bad luck). I didnt need the c notch kit on mine. A friend of mine went all out on his with the 4/6 , c notch and 2 1/2" spindle drop with a 2" spring.
Here is a photo from the side. His tires are the same as mine and we measured wheelwell to ground on both. His is exactly 1" lower on eah end. I can't tell that much difference.

Thanks for the heads up. I’m may just bite the bullet a try the 4/6 spring kit as I would atleast get all the shock mount relocation/shocks and trac bar. Worst case is I buys a longer spring and convert over to disc with drop spindles. I would love to keep the stock 6 lug with caps. And I hear they won’t clear a 6 kit at caliper.

I just took around the block and brakes are ok but will go through and adjust them all.

Next on the list. Took her for a spin and the old clutch slips with about half throttle or more. Anyone think it might get better with normal use?

https://i.imgur.com/gK2CGPz.jpgOverload spring removed. Is there any value to selling them? Someone must have installed them after purchase of truck. Cause you can’t run oem bumper mounts with them in place on shortbed. Sure wish I had the patina factory white bumper

Got into the heater tonight. It’s completely $:!;):’ up and broken so I got on LMC and ordered up control panel with new dash vents and hoses to defrost. Vacuum out the heater box. Removed fan and cleaned that side out to. Plus I ordered the door window felt kit.

I have the same kit from Speedway on my 68. I had to grind a small amount on the passengers trailing arm to get the panhard bar mount to shift over enough to line up the u-bolt holes.

Good luck, Rg

Thanks for the heads up. Gotta start somewhere and adjust as necessary I guess

Re: Patina love

You wont need to remove the front sheet metal with that kit. It shows no front upper shock relocation brkts.

As I dug into the truck yesterday I found that the blower motor was about all that was worth a damn in the heating department. Controls, cables, ducts, def vents were all junk. So Got them ordered through LMC as well as door felt kit and clutch fan for engine. Parts can’t show up fast enough

Check your linkage adjustment first. But it's probably time to order a clutch too. No, it won't get better.

Linkage looks good and does have free play. Throw out bearing does make some noise to. O’Reilly auto parts has a clutch, pressure plate, throw out with pilot bearing for 99.99. I have never seen an inline 6 250 flywheel but I take it that it will be surfaceable

Driving truck yesterday and really started driving like crap. Sputters and misses, even died rolling into stop sign. So this a.m. I found the culprit

All taken care of now. Should have removed carb and cleaned in the first place. Oh well. She runs like a champ now. Well, except clutch slipping. I got new one be here tomorrow and I’m taking trans out tonight.

Pretty deep on the flywheel. Hard to believe someone could screw this up that bad with a 150hp engine😂😂 it is an 11” setup and from what I can see 10”s are the typical for a inline 6 with 11” being listed for 307’s. I don’t plan on running it for anything more than a driver so I opted for the 10”. Will get flywheel turned in the morning and reinstall. Plus’s I got tail seal and 2 u-joints to install

oneshotkyle 01-25-2024 04:16 PM

Re: Patina love

Word of advice on clutches. Mine had a 11” clutch and from what I could tell most inline 250’s listed a 10”. I went along and brought a 10” kit home and the pleasure plate is to small of a diameter to work on flywheel so here I sit waiting for tomorrow delivery on that 11”.

Speedway 3/5 kit installed. Waiting on some 3 on the tree rubber bushings to tighten shifting up some. Read good article on that here on the forum.

Been driving around all day settling in the suspension. No bottom outs and drives better than I got it. Ordered up an HEI and wires tonight for 87 bucks shipped clutch fan going on after LMC order arrives tomorrow along with all the heater controls and such for heater on inside of cab

Question for all the guru’s on here. My truck had a aftermarket dual knob radio in the dash. There is no way to mount dash speaker, no holes cut in doors and no wiring anywhere to be found. And it is about as base model as you could get. Where can I find a OEM radio delete plate? Are they anywhere to be found?

Re: Patina love

Keep an eye out on the sale section here, delete plates pop up from time to time.
Looking good!

So I come home after a hard days work ready to take the dogs for a ride in “TETNUS”. And upon opening garage door I found this
https://i.imgur.com/GHwJloW.jpg
So I had to heat drums up with torch as they were siezed on axle flange. And then I race on down to O’Reilly to get parts. I bought new drum, pads, wheel cylinders, spring kits, adjusters, axle seals and axle bearing. All of which will be here tomorrow. When I get home I finish disassemble both sides and find the e brake cables broke. So I call orielly up and although they didn’t have them he gave me ac delco number 18p2299. Hope it’s right cause I got a pair coming second day from rock auto. What a mess. Lmao

I do not get the "patina love" thing. Two reasons to leave the body on my truck as it was in my build. I do not have the money to spend (understand that) or I have more dollars than cents (sense). I saved a lot of years to do my truck as I wanted. I will love it with the new paint. The original faded and rusted exterior would be a compromise to me. No matter what I did to fix it up it would still be an old rusty truck. Can the old rusty truck still be enjoyed, yes.

What’s not to love about a truck with original body panels and unmolested pretty much everywhere. Just the thought of all the history these trucks went through and survived is truly amazing. I would definitely love a tricked out freshly painted truck also but will take my time enjoying all the simple features of the era, while my brand new 90k truck sits in the driveway

Got some spare time today, pulled the axles and although the bearing look great the axle surface was pitted. So I got a new pair of 6 lug axles with bearing, seals and lugs on the way
https://i.imgur.com/SRvEzq7.jpg

Then I pulled rear end , degreased and pressure washed. Then went to town with wire wheel. Already have everything new so getting it painted and re installed. Axles hopefully Friday.

Well, I do love the patina look. I like car shows but I LOVE junkyards and when I see a patina truck I'm happy someone loves it enough to keep it on the road. I'd rather see patina than billet and tweed.

Nice work, Rg

To add more context to my post. Love and like are two really different things to me. I liked my first 72 truck and my current truck a lot the way they were. Will "LOVE" my current 72 when I finish it. Love is a word I use carefully. Dishing out love to people and things that need it is another thing. Understand that.

Building brake lines and assembling rear brakes at this point. Weather sucks here and painting parts is a total pain in the a$$…. Axles should arrive today, hopefully. And I got a package last night with a radio delete plate I had bought from a member. Here’s the before and after

You're going to have a nicely sorted out truck when done!

I'll look at my air cleaner stash and see if I have one I could part with...
