Faded Glory (1971 med bronze patina refresh)
1 Attachment(s)
The name Faded Glory came to me while dragging this truck home. Like a comfortable pair of well broken in jeans. A few tears and plenty of signs of use, but comfortable to wear.
It has a 350/350 setup with power steering and not a whole lot else. It was ordered to be a truck, and I can tell that’s how it was used. I always like the upper trim only for some reason, and the white rims and bumper compliment the two-tone white roof. This will be another “refresh”. My plan is to get the mechanicals repaired (tune up, brakes, electrical functional), new white stripe tires, replace the black interior vinyl, and clean ad detail everything. I haven’t decided if it needs hubcaps or wheel covers just yet. No lowering, cutting, or big wheels. Those are just not my thing. Attachment 2391040 |

Of course the bed was full of sh..stuff. Leaned all that out when I got it home.
Btw… that rope in the pic, I’m pretty sure is holding up an exhaust pipe haha Attachment 2391044 |

Loading it on the trailer was fun. Four flat tires, doesn’t run, and my manual trailer winch handle broke. Fortunately I always take everything I might need when I go herding turds, so I had a come-along and tow strap. Just took forever and wore me out! Unfortunately I was too occupied to take pictures of that.
Once back in town (after clearing out the bed), I swung through the car wash to knock off the webs. Attachment 2391048 |

Tomorrow I plan to unload it, put it up on jack stands, and pull the wheels so I can get going on some tires. Then DMV shenanigans and ordering some things this week I’ll need to get it running.

Some comparisons between caps vs covers… what do you guys think?

Looks like a nice find.
I've been drawn more to covers lately. Good luck, Rg |

Nice find, looks like a nice truck. Personally I like the caps, matches well with the painted bumpers and the low option theme. Either one looks great though.

It was a royal pain unloading with 4 flat tires and just a come-along, but I got it onto flat concrete.
Attachment 2391132 Put her up on jack stands and pulled off the wheels next. Those lug nuts were on there good, after sitting in a field since 1999. It was about 90-deg, I'm wore out again. Attachment 2391133 Here she sits waiting now... Attachment 2391134 Attachment 2391135 My friends son has this outer grill, I am hoping he will sell it to me for this truck... Attachment 2391136 |
Re: Faded Glory (1971 med bronze patina refresh)
Things I've ordered after inspections:
- tires - ignition and door locks/keys - belts - radiator hoses, cap, thermostat/gasket - brakes (pads, shoes, cylinders, calipers, hoses, drum hardware kit) - set of 69-72 wheel covers (happened to pop up on ebay for a reasonable price, I can always sell if I don't use them) Already have tune up parts (plugs, wires, cap, rotor). I still need to by heater hoses, fuel hose/filter, oil/filter, battery. Some other misc items. |
Re: Faded Glory (1971 med bronze patina refresh)
Things I'll be looking for, if anyone on here has any leads...
- front bumper - inner grille - upper bed side molding - driver condition door sill plates - 1 red side marker |
Re: Faded Glory (1971 med bronze patina refresh)
Oh... while crawling around under the truck I noticed the dual exhaust is in rough shape. Didn't see that one coming, might need some repair.

I remember seeing this one in the Marketplace thread. That gas door stood out to me too!! Looks like a pretty nice score so far to me.

Re: Faded Glory (1971 med bronze patina refresh)
Love the trucks that are medium bronze!
Very nice. |
Re: Faded Glory (1971 med bronze patina refresh)
Looks like a fun project!
I prefer caps on the lower option trucks |
Re: Faded Glory (1971 med bronze patina refresh)
Cool looking project! As for the caps, bright and white with black walls - not a fan of white walls on trucks, but that's just me.

Re: Faded Glory (1971 med bronze patina refresh)
I love the feedback guys, thanks.
I’m also wondering about the mirrors. I love the patina on them, but I’m considering swapping them for the standard round mirrors. Also, if I find a 71-72 chrome bumper before I find a painted one, that may steer me that direction. What do you guys think. |
Re: Faded Glory (1971 med bronze patina refresh)
I like it way much, mirrors included! :metal:

Re: Faded Glory (1971 med bronze patina refresh)
I like the name and the truck. Sub'd to follow along.
That rear bumper brings the beef. |

Very cool
I’m always fascinated to know what city you found it in and how far did you travel to get it. |

Dropped the wheels off where the truck is stored at my friends shop.
His son is cleaning up this c20 (converted to k20). What do you think of the 90’s seat?? Attachment 2391661 Attachment 2391662 |
Re: Faded Glory (1971 med bronze patina refresh)
I like that. Flows with the interior

Got most of the brake work done today. Rear left complete except I think I cracked the hard line near the cylinder fitting. Ugh…
The rear passenger side I stripped the hex head on both wheel cylinder bolts. More ugh… It’s all ready to bolt everything up once I figure out a way to remove the cylinder. Attachment 2393660 The front calipers, pads, hoses went smoothly. I noticed the calipers are GM stamped. These came from rockauto. There was no fluid up front, I think the rats had their way with the hoses… haha Attachment 2393661 |
Re: Faded Glory (1971 med bronze patina refresh)
weld a nut to the back of each bolt and you should be able to get them out. a little heat will help to break the rust.
|
Re: Faded Glory (1971 med bronze patina refresh)
I love that idea. I don’t think I can get my welder to this location. I’ll probably drill or grind them off.

My favorite color.
I would clean and re-caulk the drip-rails. I consider it a must-do especially if it sits outside. |
