67 c10 - aka "the heavy chevy" mk II
 

I got myself a truck i've been wanting since i was 18 ( roughly 20 yrs ago ) when the folks got rid of the 1970 c10 we had on the farm and that i had learned standard in etc. We moved several provinces away and over the rockies, but to this day i still think we should have kept the original "heavy chevy". I got this 67 a few years ago and have had a few things improved upon, but there is lots to do still. Most recently, we added power steering which is awesome. I am proud of my duct tape seats and some other minor touches but hopefully will have it in reasonable order one of these days. The suspension is the big one, as it's a bit clunky at low speeds, plus many other things. The cab is pretty solid, previous owner did shore up a few things. So i will put up a few photos from when i first got it, and maybe a few more recent ones. here goes...

so those ( if i haven't messed this up ) are the "as is" photos. Not much was working properly on this truck when i got it, but with some help from the old man we got it safe-ish. I'll do some newer ones next time i'm on. Ciao! I also must clarify that my Dad is the actual mechanic and did the power steering not to mention a lot of other stuff for which i am very grateful. I work a mean roll of duct tape though...

Unless my eyes deceive me, I see an NV4500 boot and shifter in that cab. Has it been tranny swapped?

Thanks! Not sure which model, we figured it was out of an s-10 or something, something the previous owner added. 5 speed, with a very short throw, so it's a bit wierd in a full size old truck. feels like it should be in a geo metro or something.

Hiyo,
Not a lot of updates for a bit i think, though i'm excited to get some more stuff sorted out ( and there's lots that needs to be done ). My next move will be getting the muffler/exhaust replaced with something nice and quiet. It's got dual ( insert name of loud ass muffler ) mufflers w/ large pipes out the side. I barely hear a Harley riding next to me, and i don't have a stereo! I could post a photo of the underside for the hell of it i suppose.

Not sure if the kudos for interior was for this one, but thanks if it was. I get some laughs with the duct tape, but i am proud of the way it turned out. I had looked at your build Rick, and it's coming along nicely. I was pondering what to do with the grill etc. but feel encouraged by how sweet the bevels/grill chrome looks on yours. So, next is exhaust, hopefully in the next couple weeks, and maybe some minor cosmetic stuff. My next item will depend on money mainly, as with a lot of things. Ciao for now.

Not sure what type it's got, i haven't crawled under for a while. Might have to do the front suspension before i get to the muffler/exhaust situation. It's sounding rough, and is none too safe either i think. Might upgrade if i can afford it, we'll see. Not too flush at the moment.

just got the brakes done all round ( became #1 priority ) , and got a good idea of what's wonky with suspension, and should get that sorted out soon. Got some stuff to get a stereo at least working, and debating speaker placement etc. I am leaning towards speakers in the door, and later i'll add a few in the dash or elsewhere when i get a decent stereo. Got a pair of 6x9's for 7 bucks at the thrift store, and they look brand new, score. free stereo from a friend, just going to have a go at wiring it maybe tomorrow. Will add photos once i get it sorted. Stoked.

Built a speaker box for now, bought a soldering iron etc. and had some fun making it. Should allow passengers room for their clogs or crocs or whatnot. Thinking very strongly about getting the retrosound stereo, not that interested in a huge pumping system and i like the way it looks, not to mention not likely to be stolen as it's probably not an in demand item. might paint this thing ( thought about more duct tape ) but for now it's ready.

Got some high-ish density foam and cut out the drivers side foam, put a couple pieces of flooring in to firm things up, and re-taped it all up nice. Will get photo soon. Also finished scraping all the old sealant out of the roof rain gutter as it was cracked and flaking. Sanded, wire wheeled the rust out, hit it with some primer and then applied the new sealant. The seat is awesome and i sit up a bit higher which is great for my "gammy" hip. Duct tape is not a long term option, but it should last a couple years if done right. Going to primer over the rain gutter sealant tomorrow and may sand the rest of the roof and primer it too. Also had a guy driving by who has a parts truck, got his card, random awesome.

after removing old rain gutter sealant, etc. primer, sealant, primer. I was originally planning on white roof on black truck. Digging the grey though, we'll see once it's finished.

Did er up. Flat white, going to touch up a bit later on. i am happy with it, going to get my chrome back on, soon. Been reading a lot of stuff on this site, thinking about what i'd like to do down the road. so many things to do.

I'd had a couple pints and saw my truck in the evening light, and knew instantly it was true love....er i mean.. thought this fog/mist looked rad and dope is what i mean. yar...n' stuff. it was a very macho moment to be sure.

i have been trying to glean every bit of information about front end suspension from this site, and am wondering on a scale of 1 to 10, for a rookie mechanic, how hard would it be to rebuild the stock front end on this bad boy? I am broke, so no fancy stuff ( no newer crossmember swaps etc ) , but it's undriveable and i want to replace the ball joints etc and get it going. 1 being a baby could do it, and 10 being tough for a pro. thanks in advance.

Got my stereo in, and working. not sure if i'd put a photo in here. I will finish it up with some brackets and a better board to mount it up to. This is a temporary setup, going to get my original radio and attempt to convert it myself to a stereo with ipod, or just an fm radio as i have a fm transmitter for my ipod. Nice to have tunes in there, had been struggling with computer speakers and a portable stereo for ahwile. This is slightly less ridiculous. Next winter project is to put a screen gutter guard in. Looked up my serial # in the cab also, found out she's Canadian, from Oshawa Ontario, and was originally dark aqua and white two tone, which makes sense. Studying up on front end rebuild info, and may attempt it myself soon-ish.

It's a 5 speed transmission yeah, so it's newer, but not sure what from. Could be pilfered from a s-10 or something. It shifts more like a small car, which sometimes is a good thing.

Here is what i'm dealing with. I am pretty sure i need an entire front end rehaul, but i am not very rich at the moment so....i may have to either not drive it ( already been off the road for a couple months ) so i figure at least one side desperately needs tie rods replaced. My Dad added power steering but i don't think he touched the tie rods etc. Do i want to put the stock tie rods on or do i need the pwr steering type, keeping in mind it's a 67? If anybody knows, i would be very grateful to know what you think. I am going to do the work myself, as it seems pretty straightforward, and get an alignment afterwards. I will have to chip away at it, tie rods seem to be the worst of my troubles. if anyone reads this, or responds, thanks!

Haven't posted in some time. The weather has improved so i'm doing a bit more work lately. Truck sat most of the winter, which i'm not happy about, not going to help the condition as it was outside. Right now i'm fixing my paint job on the roof as i did a poor job last summer. Now installing semi-gloss white, with a coat or two of clear afterwards once i'm happy with it. mounted my stereo with brackets in the glove box, still needs a few things. Buying jack stands next week and going to have a crack at my front upper ball joints and upper control arm bushings. I have some tools from my Dad, and feel pretty good about my chances with all the reading i've been doing on the topic. here's a crappy pic
