Heavy Haul registration
My cousin and I were at Pick a Part yesterday, and there was a old C50 like truck.
How much does it cost for the regular guy to register, and insure a C50? Also if a C50 has a 454 how bad are they to drive, and can they be modernized enough for better mpg. Like using a 454, and 4L80 could one get 10mpg at 55-60mph? |
Re: Heavy Haul registration
I don't know about the insurance and registration, that will vary per state, but I personally don't think you'll be able to get close to 10 mpg, i have a 454 and a 4l80e in my 3/4 ton with 3.73 gears, and it gets 11-12 on the highway
I think 6-7 mpg at best |
Re: Heavy Haul registration
Withmy C50 they wanted me to insure it as it was a regular working truck. As in its out on the road every day hauling and racking up the miles. This thing is to be used mainly on the property to maintain the road etc. Go get gravel or some lumber a couple of times a year. Aint gonna happen. When I asked them how much, the quote was slightly more than my pickup AND car. Check with the DMV they can tell you what you are able to do. Check on HIstoric or streetrod tags.

Re: Heavy Haul registration
As long as it's under 26,000 GVWR, it's same as a dually pickup, more or less. Especially if you're a farmer, lol.

Re: Heavy Haul registration
In Washington, regular fees plus additional for "tonnage".
On a C-50, tabs are a little bit over $100. Don't know about insurance. BTW---Don't know the specifics but if it weighs too much you have to have a CDL (license endorsement).. |

I have a Vintage Vehicle plate on my truck, as long as you don't use it as a daily driver you can get away with one of these plates. insurance was not too bad for a hobby truck, I got my insured to only $5000, that all they would let me get with out an appraisal. Laws differ form state to state to state, many states have some kind of Vintage Vehicle plate.
If you use an old truck to haul a race car, that is considered commercial, or if you sell t-shirts at car shows of you truck, is considered commercial, so be vary careful what you do with an old truck, those DOT cops can and will stop you for an inspection, and you better have your ducks in a row if you wan to keep you hard earned cash. anything over 10,000 lbs if subject to DOT Inspection, commercial or Not. |
