I saw it done on a truck at the starbirds show this year.

he eliminated the center bar too, but he used a larger trim piece so it still looks like a regular gasket unless you have one to compare it to, then you can see the difference. He did it like you said, urethaned larger glass in and used modern windshield trim that covers the small gap.

I have been into cars and trucks for a long time and in the 90s guys would do it with the front and rear-side glass on their VW bugs, the kit was the larger glass, urethane caulking, and trim. gave a nice finished and clean look to the cars.

we are talking about the same thing I think. the truck I showed has a flush mount glass and used a small piece of trim to close the very small gap between the metal and the glass. the truck you showed has a tighter fit and does not have any trim on it. both are installed with urethane glue instead of a rubber gasket.

I havent seen any kits to do this, you can go to a glass cutter and they can measure, cut, and install it easily and they will have all the tools. my guess would be that cutting glass that is close and needs trim would cost a lot less than it would cost to cut glass that fits exactly, so make sure you tell them which one you want.

I'm pretty sure that that truck has a V butt windshield. I've seen too many of those one piece units with so much distortion in the middle where the bend is that I wouldn't want one on a bet but there are good glass guys around who can V butt one pretty well.

You just have the glass shop cut the new glass the amount larger that you need to fill the space so it sets on the urethane windshield tape (round) and cut so that it butts in the middle properly. A number of years ago there was an article in a magazine about flush fitting windshields and using the window trim for S-10 trucks as the trim and you can buy it quite reasonable in bulk but it probably takes more than one roll to do an AD windshield. Like this but I would search for a long enough roll so I didn't have more than one seam.

I would look for the molding that has a real good rating for ozone protection though.

mr48 that picture is exactly what I was talking about thank you for the visual.

I agree they are both v butt in the center.

I love the look of a V butt windshield but it sure is a challenge when you modify the stock rubber to do it.

The flush fit windshield doesn't fit in with my build plan unless I could find some wider trim for an older look.

Wow it is amazing what a quick search brings up. The wider trim might look the part. This gives ACII some options too. Cool beans. https://www.gggcorp.com/Universal_Mouldings.html#VT

that is a v-but and direct set windshield setup. the glass needs to be cut very accurately at the center seam. the t molding they are using in that illustration is commonly referred to as S-10 rubber. I have also seen a h shaped edge rubber that has polyurethane adhesive in the part of the h that fits on the glass. we used that on a 32 3 window coupe in my shop.

Re: Installing windshield without rubber seal ...possible ?

There is indeed an art to V butting a windshield and getting it right. I'm thinking that in the right hands it would come out better with the urethane tape than with stock type rubber in most cases.
I checked several sources for the "S-10" molding the other night and cannot find any source that gives the length of one of those smaller rolls. Guys use it on street rods like the 32 that JWhotrod did but Those windshields are usually smaller than an AD truck windshield.

Yo7 can actually buy a one peice glass-for 47-53 trucks now.

don't go after the Jefferies one piece window, we tried to do that in my brothers 41 chevy truck. the window came cut too small to begin with and when I spoke to him he knew it was small when he shipped it. Then tried to sell me Sheetmetal strips to build the window opening out to the window. we ended up eating that window and going forth getting custom glass cut and v-butted and direct set with Glass Guy Chicago. Great guy and does excellent work. do not know where you are but he travels all over the Midwest doing glass for a lot of the streetrod shops from Minnesota to Tennessee. It is amazing how much removing that center strip opens up the windshield.
