trans conversion problem

Converting my 67 K10 from a three on the tree to a SM465 keeping my T221. I rebuilt the SM465 and have it installed. I have the correct adaptor, but when I tried to mount the T221 there was about a 1/4" gap. Pulled it back apart, the output shaft from the SM465 and the input shaft on the T221touch leaving the gap. Was there a length difference in the output shafts on a SM465. Mine was supposed to be from a 72. If I can't resolve this I will have to find a three speed to gut, or convert to the 205.
Not looking to spend a lot more $$

Re: trans conversion problem

If I did convert to a 205 could I use the driveshafts and crossmember off a 70-72 K10. I understand that the 205 sits back 2". Or could I move my 6cyl motor mounts forward 2".

just cut about 3/8 inch off the input shaft on the transfer case. you will need a cutoff wheel for this

Re: trans conversion problem

Decided to trim inputshaft. Going to shorten a 205 coupler. Researched seals and found some that will make up diameter difference. Will post numbers after I get it back together mon or tues.

Re: trans conversion problem

Trimmed input shaft. Shortened 205 coupler. Modified insde ends with hand grinder to fit flush like the original. A lathe taking about 9/16 " inside each end would have been easier. The correct seals to use foryhe modification are any of these part numbers, skf 18591, natioal 40071s, or 472439834. The seal measurements are shaft 1.875, bore 2.623, outside 2.627. They run about $8-$10 each. Hope this saves someone some research and money.

Re: trans conversion problem

Update, 8 months running the 205 coupler, no problems, no leaks.
