JS LSX Turbo complete kits...anyone heard of this?
Lately I've been reading a lot of threads and watch videos trying to do my home work on a turbo swap for my truck. I just ran across this video on youtube of this guy who offers turbo kits for lsx motors. Only thing is he doesn't give a price unless ur actually ready to do ur turbo build but from the videos I've seen it seems like a good deal. This kit would be perfect for me as I have little to no fab skills at all...don't even know how to weld yet.Has anyone heard of or dealt with this guy before?
Here is one of his vids....http://youtu.be/Isg85uifGmI |
Re: JS LSX Turbo complete kits...anyone heard of this?
Sounds like someone is trying to make a quick buck. $100 for an initial consultation? Didn't really go into details of what type or sizes of turbos, what type of material of manifolds, size of injectors, etc...He sounds more like a used cars saleman trying to selling a kit with different options. Most likely the turbos, wastegates, BOVs are chinese made from Ebay.
I can see he is trying to make a quick put together kits from the video. I know I wouldn't use a 90 degree silicon elbow to the throttle body. He could have gotten an aluminum elbow and use a straight connector to minimize flexing or boost leak. If you don't know how to turbo, its best to get a shop to do it and you can learn from it. Just a quick search, I found a kit that looks like his. http://www.ebay.com/itm/CHEVY-SBC-28...30e6b7&vxp=mtr |

Hes all talk

Re: JS LSX Turbo complete kits...anyone heard of this?
He might be all talk but he's had some fast ls car's.. check the little 280 z out,, 5.7's is kinda fast. anyways here's a guy on ls1tech is selling a looks like a great kit that might work on a truck...
http://ls1tech.com/forums/forced-ind...kit-build.html I do have a mustang with ls,,, thought of going to his setup.... and doing away with the nos setup. here's my mustang https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtbooZoGZmQ |
Re: JS LSX Turbo complete kits...anyone heard of this?
On3 performance uses Chinese turbos, wastegates, etc. I am familiar with them, a friend of mine uses their kit...That guy in the youtube posted by the original poster is not On3.

Re: JS LSX Turbo complete kits...anyone heard of this?
If you spend some time on the ls1tech forced induction forum you will see tons of Chinese stuff going super fast.
Can you fab? VS Racing has the "Denmah Special" that has pretty much all you need for like 800 bucks. |

Re: JS LSX Turbo complete kits...anyone heard of this?
Im trying to figure everything out.... like what turbo I need to get for the kinda power I want to get. The truck is just for the street not track. I would like 450-500 to the wheels. The engine would be bone stock except from what I've read so far, it'll be better to have dual valve springs. And i'll have to the get the 4L60 beefed up for that power obviously. Im trying to find all the parts i'll need for the build as well. Im getting pretty serious about this build...we have a 2015 f350 super duty on work and the way that turbo diesel pulls that heavy ass thing is crazy lol...I want that for my truck. I probably wont be able to do the build right away but im starting to plan for it now.

here's that ebay kit thread...http://ls1tech.com/forums/forced-ind...-ebay-kit.html I don't know how to fab but i'll have to learn if I want to do this. i'll be doing the turbo build at the same shop where I did the 5.3 swap and the guy said he built turbo motors before so I guess it'll be ok |

Read this thread: http://ls1tech.com/forums/forced-ind...turbo-kit.html
Or check out Wasted Income's Family Hauler thread on here. I looked at your build thread and it seems like you should be mechanically inclined enough to do a turbo on your own. Just pick up a 110 mig and get some practice in before you start and you will save thousands. |

Kool!! Thanks for the link

Re: JS LSX Turbo complete kits...anyone heard of this?
How's he gonna weld Stainless or Alum with a basic 110 mig?
I agree he's prob capable enough of putting something together tho, but personally I wouldn't try to "learn" mig welding on tube, for a turbo application. Ivorton, for the power levels you want, you have a ton of wiggle room and choices for parts. I'd really consider having some vbands or flanges welded onto flipped truck manifolds, which has been done 100's of times, and can easily put the turbo where you'd like it. Chinese turbos' can go fast, you just have to be a bit more diligent in WHERE you get it from, and making sure that your getting exactly what you want. Starting with the truck manifolds, some flanges, a bend kit like Tiny posted, your already well on your way. Used Holset's can also be nice if you want "factory" type parts. My .04 cents. |

I agree about the learning to weld part though. Welding tube isn't too much different once you know how to weld but learning on a curve is just making it harder on yourself. |
Re: JS LSX Turbo complete kits...anyone heard of this?
Good point about the welding...learning to weld on tubes would be hard for a novice like me. I was just look at a some vids of a kid in florida with 4.8 in a ford Fairmont and he made his own kit using just truck manifolds and tubing and it turned out pretty good...here's the vid if u want to check it out...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nr3HpPYGeF0...Using the manifolds seems to be the easiest way to do the kit with that piping kit on the site Tiny posted. Also I do see alotta turbo threads with guys using those Chinese gt35 and gt45 turbos and making good power without issues...even them guys on justchevytrucks are using them so maybe i'll use one of those. btw do I have to use the truck manifolds or would the fbody ones I have on the truck work too? I'm gonna have a ton of questions.

Re: JS LSX Turbo complete kits...anyone heard of this?
I havent read all of this thread but just spend the extra $$ and got a borg warner turbo instead of the $300 china stuff. Genuine b/w turbos can be had new for $6/700.
|
Re: JS LSX Turbo complete kits...anyone heard of this?
I saw those b/w turbos on ebay...those are pretty good for the price.

Re: JS LSX Turbo complete kits...anyone heard of this?
Came across this on ls1tech....http://shop.huronspeedproducts.com/G...7-truckhot.htm. would this work on an older truck?
|
Re: JS LSX Turbo complete kits...anyone heard of this?
Its not a bad kit. Good thickness on the parts. The 2.5 inch hotside is a bit large. They might be able to tell you if it will fit if you call them over the phone.
Check this guy out: http://www.one-guys-garage.com/ Depending where you are in South Dakota it might be worth driving it there and having him build you a custom kit (and any other custom work you want). His shop rate is $55 an hour. |
Re: JS LSX Turbo complete kits...anyone heard of this?
Dirty Dingo sells a turbo manifold with crossover kit. http://dirtydingo.com/store/product_...oducts_id=1439
Looks like it uses a stock cast manifold for the pass side, with the crossover at the rear of the motor. |
Re: JS LSX Turbo complete kits...anyone heard of this?
@ tiny...that shop is about 5 hours away from where i am in Northeastern SD so not that far away. Looks like an impressive shop...guy did some sweet turbo cars.
@83silverado....that kit looks great as well...theres alot of options...just gotta figure out which is the best way to go |
Re: JS LSX Turbo complete kits...anyone heard of this?
Where does the blow off valve usually go?
|
Re: JS LSX Turbo complete kits...anyone heard of this?
If your thinking about turbo-ing the lsx in that big body chevy you have a more room than just about anyone for options.
If it were me I would take the time to build my own with reverse truck manifolds or buy a kit based off that. Those log manifolds dont look all that enticing to me. The idea of a "turbo kit" is kind of funny when you think about. |
