picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT

Looks like i'm getting this truck... non-smoker one owner and loaded w/ new brakes and BFG AT's... $19,000

steering is a little tighter than I expected though, might be the tires but was wondering what your thoughts are.. also wondering about a leveling kit to bring the nose level with the rear. I think it will require the torsion keys but what about shocks and allignment? I would have rather had a full short bed but like the 5.3L better for MPG vs/ the 1500HD 6.0L.

2006 GMC 1500 Sierra SLT
51,539 mi, 5.3L V8, Automatic, Leather, Power Windows, Power Locks, Keyless Entry, Cruise, Bose Audio System, Rhino Bed Liner, Z71 Package, Heated Seats, Six disc CD Changer, Towing Package, 4x4, 1 owner

well, PO's really tick me off sometimes...

The guy doesn't have the title and wants to wait for it to arrive next week until we finish the deal...

Buying privately sure is a pain sometimes. I hope you get things worked out soon! That truck sure is sharp.

That's a good looking truck Mike. I have an '05 Chevy identical to it and I love mine. As far as the leveing kit goes I've never used one, I've always had the torsion keys tightened up a few rounds to level the front end. It does affect your ride quality a little but not much and yes you will have to get an alignment done.

Can the PO write you a bill of sale until the title comes in? That's what I've done before here in Georgia.

Re: picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT

You can't get a registration without title paperwork in PA. If it was a dealer then a temp tag is an option, not on a private sale.

I was getting a little heated with him when he said that he wants to wait until the title arrives (next week). Maybe i'll still go to the auction Thursday night and look at trucks again... Might find a better deal that I can drive home with on friday... bet that would make him wish he had "title in hand"...

I'm not handing over a $19000 check without car keys so he has to pay his loan off himself,

Yeah I don't blame you on that. If he doesn't have the title, then he gets no cash. Hope it all works out.

Yeah cranking the torsion bars up a bit will help raise it up. You prob won't notice much change in ride quality though. Like sdailey said it's minimal.

I hope it works out but if not then something else will come. I sure wouldn't level it though, especially if you ever want to use it was a truck. Trucks are raked for a reason....hauling in a leveled truck looks really dumb when the back end is way lower and the trailer is empty.

I would too....the title deal sounds flaky to me.

the guy said that he sent in his payoff so that he can get the title, we'll see... would have been smart to have it in hand but it's his sale...

Here in Oklahoma we have the title the whole time, just has a lien on it for the bank. You can pay off the loan, and then just get a lien release, or just check with the DMV and they can tell you if the lien has been removed. It's weird how there are so many different rules and such from state to state.

Re: picking up a new (to me) '06 Sierra SLT

Here in PA the state holds all titles with a lien, when the bank reports that you pay it off they send it to you in the mail...

In Indiana the bank holds the title till payoff...

Florida is pure elctronic I think...

New York can (could) sign over the registration and that acted as the title...

I really like having something in my hand saying it's mine. Well as long as the bank lets me have it anyway.

yep, I have a firebox with a few titles inside. add in the college diplomas and family birth certificates and it gives you some real pride in ownership..

might be a change on plans, going to look at this on Tuesday...

it's a 2003 only asking $15K w/ 62K miles... $4k less ( I know it's not worth as much as the GMC) but the extra $110/month would go a long way towards gas vs. heated leather seats in the GMC.

Nothing wrong with those F150's...two of my friends have one and they are reliable and nice.

we'll see...

If I can get out the door with it for $15K then the GMC might be passed on. The $4-5K saved can put a nice paintjob on my 68.

final post... chastise me how you want... I found this on an obscure website today, 04 with only 37K miles... title in hand for $17K...

I think it was just Jersey Liz, I feel that way every time I cross the border!

I only drive 18 minutes to work...

thanks for kind words though, I just couldn't find a GM that suited me for the price. GM got real lazy with body styles till the new 07... I have an 05 Tahoe that looks like almost identical to my moms 95 silverado.. that's lazy
