"Hot August Nights" Photos

I spent the day last Thurs/Fri in Reno at Hot August Nights and Sat/Sun in Lake Tahoe at the Wood Boat Regatta. I thought you guys would like seeing pic's of (mostly) Chevy trucks I took. And of course a FEW of other cars/trucks too. This is just a sample; there were hundreds of cars and trucks. SO MANY awesome rods I took a couple hundred photos and could have taken hundreds more. Even picked up a couple very neat ideas.

This guy had a sign describing the history of his truck and claimed to have spent $265,000 dollars on it. If I'd spent that, I wouldn't admit it!!
Nice enough truck alright, but c'mon $265K? Uh...no. It doesn't reflect THAT kind of money.

One of the neat little ideas I DID pick up was this guy's hood locks. Simple, effective and cheap too!

But for the $265K I'd have put a small chrome or polished stainless piece over the slotted hole to prevent chipped paint; oh well

Oh, and just for the hell of it here's a pic of my somewhat newer Chevy truck working like only Chevy's can! Yes, that's a LOT of weight. Handles it like a champ.

Oh cool. I'd never been before. Always wanted to go and finally got the time off. Had a lot of fun; VERY worthwhile for car guys.

Good pics and report Dan. That's my biggest fear, I'll look at my truck and then do the math 265K!!!
You're right the stance on that first truck is perfect.

Thanks for the pic's. That's an awesome way to lock the hood. I'd never seen anything like that.

Agreed, such a simple idea. I think I'll use the same kind of lock but the one that uses the "barrel" type key....if I can find them! Just another way of making it tough for anyone to break in.

I replaced a bunch of tubular cam locks on our filing cabinet a few years back. I bought a lot of 40-50 them on ebay for around 3 bucks (shipping was about $20 though). I think there the locks your talking about. I'd like to do this mod, however, I'd try and go with a stainless set due to rust. I doubt the chrome on these locks are very good. I'll have to find them and see what there made of. All my locks are keyed a like. I'll send you a pair, that way "we" can both have an easy way to your engine:metal:

Im a fan of that hood lock idea, definetly alot cleaner than the chain and pad lock I used to have in my Chevelle lol.

I also went to the show in Reno on Thursday and it was great. There were tons of cars, trucks, and hot rods at all the casinos.

This little Ford was a trip. Twin supercharged engines. The best part about it was the engine driven blender for margaritas lol.

Aw, Sarge....that's EXTREMELY generous of you to offer!

I thought about the rust aspect too but figured sine it would be under the ldeading edge of the hood and since I live in SoCal, how bad could it get before I'd hit it with a touch of AAA steel wool and WD? I'll defintely use stainless sheet metal crews though. Make sure to post a picture thread when you do the mod so I can add pix of my install too.
