'67 C50 choke on a 327
 

My choke cable is not hooked up and I cannot see how it should be mounted to the engine, can someone provide a picture of their working setup. Engine is a 327.

Also, did these big trucks have a neutral start switch on the clutch pedal?

I won't have any pictures of a Choke available, but there should be no kind of switch on your clutch pedal.

Back to the Choke, there should be a bracket on the side of the carb with a place to hold, and to adjust, the Choke Cable Housing.

Might be a couple of days, but I can get a pic for you from Rusty. He's got a 2bbl 350 should be the same as yours.

Very cool, thank you very much. Let's go over some stuff.

1) I have what looks to be all the "parts" for the choke, but it just doesn't seem right. The mounting tab of metal for the choke cable seems too close to the carb, and doesn't make sense. I'll take a picture of it later.


2) The truck is turning over, we have fuel(rebuilt carb as well), we have spark, but it hasn't even coughed. We tried moving the choke plate by hand to simulate a closed choke and a handful of other various "amounts" of choke setting, but the truck again never coughed or tried to start.

I think the battery may not be spinning it fast enough, and today I'll be buying the highest amp battery I can find and trying that.

This truck should run fine, all it has done is sit--it ran perfectly the last time it was running 12-14 years ago, and at that time it had spent the last 8-10 years sitting as well. Pop's said that with NO tune up and not even a carb rebuild, it fired right up(after ~10 years!!).

Taking a look at your pic, there is some missing stuff that you need. Won't get into all that right now as a pic or two will cover that nicely. Anyway, that thing SHOULD have a governor on it. Under the carb. If the blades are corroded shut you wont get a sputter. Mine has one and it'll be in the pics too.

I found that I installed the plug wires wrong on the dist, cap. It runs now, but the choke is still an issue. I appreciate the picture when you get a chance.

My whole sequence was one "seat" too far counter clockwise, I just had to play musical chairs with my wires and it fired right up!

Ok here's the pics. Sorry pics aren't of a showroom truck, but at least everything has a great coat of self applied preservative!!!

Thank you very much, however I see that the two setups are pretty different. My cable is positioned on the other side of the carb, and uses a "cam". I'll try and get it working, and when I do I'll post some pictures.

If you can't get it together with what you have available that came with the truck, I would look at one of the "universal" hand choke conversion kits. They have a lot of odds and ends along with an arm or two that should fix you right up. And yes, before I got the pics, I was expecting my setup to come in on the passenger side like yours. Oh well, give an engineer a minute or two and he'll find something to change!!! :lol:
