I just answered your question over at the Pick-up forums, but no I doubt Air Brakes were even an available option on a truck like that with that low of a GVW.

You found the right place for that truck. The C/40 was not a heavy enough hauler for air brakes to be required. can't say for sure, but I don't think they use them even now on new 4500/F450s. I could be wrong, but I don't think they go heavy enough for them to be mandated.

What you should have is a driveshaft mounted e-brake (drum). The heavy C/30s and C3500s (HO110/5 & 10 lug light truck body) had that and the vacuum booster mounted under the driver side floor, with a vent through the floor between the seat and door. Not sure, but the mediums might be the same. The two trucks draw a blurry line between the heaviest light truck and lightest medium duty. But certainly the C/40 rolling chassis is far heavier.
