Duramax swap

So I've got a 2 wheel drive 72 blazer sitting around along with a wrecked 06 2 wheel drive standard cab Duramax, bent the frame.

Curious on the people's ideas on the weight issue,I would think I could swap in some stiffer coil springs to support the massive weight the dmax Allison would add.

Would a person really need to box the frame? I've seen many big block and hi horse applications thrown into these rigs without major frame modifications.

Whatcha think people's?

Re: Duramax swap

I would be afraid of the frame twisting up on a 1/2 ton.

Re: Duramax swap

Hp is about 350 and torque is pushing 600 so I guess twist could happen at upper speeds,so we box the frame and possibly add some x bracing.
Pull the tub so we can access all and getter done,it's a plan! The hardest part is jumping in no matter what you do in life but I think this is doable.

Do it!!! And don't forget to get the EFILive to clean up that lack of HP and torque :)

Re: Duramax swap

I’m running a 12v in a 68 C20 chassis, the fronts look identical from half to 3/4. Possibly slightly thicker metal but dimensionally the same. Point is I’m estimating with what I’ve done to be around 325-350 horse and 650-700 ft lbs. power isn’t what will kill the frame, it’s traction/load. Plus our c channel frames flex vs break, but personally something that short I wouldn’t put that much weight up front even though it’s be fun

The weight is my main concern but I hope with the low stance of the 2 wheel drive it will be tolerable, pretty sure it won't ride like a car on rails but it would be a Duramax 2 wheel drive blazer. Have welder, sawzall, and a crapload of gm parts and a little bit of know how and a crazy mcgiver like brother, time is at a shortage right now but that should give me time to get my ducks in a line.

Just use 3/4 or 1 ton springs. All the square body springs will work

Doing a 2wd LBZ swap, what engine mounts did you find?
