Getting ready to start the teardown
3 Attachment(s)
I've owned this since 1996. Its a 1972 K5 bare bones model 350 4spd. I put a 4 inch lift on it in 2001 and shortly thereafter the cam went flat its been parked ever since. The windshield frame is trashed so that's my real starting point. The rest looks like it should be pretty straight forward. I'm finally going to start the tear down. Its going to be one of those slow going do what I can pay for types of builds, but Ive enjoyed seeing everybody's work so far and plan to add to the mix. These pics are poor, but there will be more to come as the fun begins.

Re: Getting ready to start the teardown
The grille guard looks way worse than it really is, nothing that a welder, some heat and a press wont fix. The brackets that are formed to the bumper are in really good shape. I found that in a friends scrap pile and put it on. It had come off a farm truck from western ks and they had added some metal from what I can tell from other pictures I'm actually going to be removing some metal to make it look stock again. I haven't decided yet.

Well its only been 9 yrs since I started this thread. I finally began the teardown. I am attaching photos of what I have found so far. I just do a little during any free time. My big question is where does one start with the body work? Is it front to back bottom to top? What advice can anyone offer? It will need rocker boxes etc, windshield frame. Also, nothing is for sale.

Re: Getting ready to start the teardown
I'd start with the bed floor (unless you can find another cab to start with). It will require the most labor and once it's done everything else will be a piece of cake (relatively...)
Good luck, Rg |
Re: Getting ready to start the teardown
Do the floor first then the bed with new metal they reproduce that way u have solid base
