67 Suburban Project

I have been using these forums for years to research issues I was having with my projects and to look for inspiration. So far I have only read posts from other people, without contributing. I figured it was time to post something. I have a fleet of old Chevy trucks including a 1970 Blazer, a 1968 short bed and a 1967 Suburban. I thought that showing some before and after photos of my Sub would be a good place to start.

From the photos above, it is obvious this thing was in extremely rough shape. What you can't see from these photos is that this thing was rusted to high heaven. It had been hit in every corner and someone had done some terrible body work. Part of the sub was even painted with latex house paint that appeared to have been applied with a roller.

Re: 67 Suburban Project

Due to the fact that I work 1 full-time job, a part-time job, have a wife and two kids and earned a degree while working on this project, I have been plugging away for about a decade.

To start with a clean slate, I had took the whole vehicle down to bare metal, removed the body panels, hood and doors. Once all the paint and poorly applied bondo was removed, this thing looked like swiss cheese thanks to the rust. both quarter panels had to be replaced, but at the time I did that part of the build, no one was making replacements. I resorted to cutting bed sides out of a long bed pick up at the local junk yard. I also had to cut the roof out of the donor truck to fill in a leaky 1970's style glass sun roof that had been leaking for years. Luckily, I found a replacement floor pan to install. My buddy Tim and I did the metal work and prepped the Sub for paint. I made a contact at a local high school that has a paint booth and talked the instructor into allowing me to use it. He even arranged for a few of the students to help me wipe it down and mask it prior to paint. I painted it with House of Kolor's Shimrin base in Trublue Pearl. It's now painted and on the road, but I still have a ways to go.

Thanks for your kind words. Hopefully I can make the interior look half way decent. I am in the process of adding a third row of seats from a mid 2000's Suburban. I already have the first and second rows installed.

Beautiful 'Burb! I like that you kept it 8 lug. Just curious as to the wheel and tire size? Thanks in advance.

Re: 67 Suburban Project

Thank you for the compliment. The wheels are an older model of American Eagle 16" x 8" and the tires are Goodyear Wrangler ST P235/75R16's. Since my last update on this project, I have finished the mounting of the third row of seats. I really haven't had the time or $$$ to do much more. The next steps in this build are to start working on a plan for front and rear air conditioning and a design for the interior.
