December 2020 ToTM

Been a while since we used this style theme, so our Truck of the Month (ToTM) theme for December is:

Love Those Hand Me Downs!

Unlike some of the clothes, our theme is a hand me down we LOVE. Those beloved vehicles that we got from a parent, grandparent, siblings, or other relative.

To be an eligible for this month's contest:
  • Open to all years and models of Trucks, Blazers, Suburbans, Tahoes, Yukons, and Jimmys.
  • The nominee must be a board member and the current owner of the truck.
  • You had to have gotten the vehicle from a family (to include in-laws) member.
  • It must be road worthy and currently legal to be on the road.
  • If a truck was selected as a 2019 or 2020 ToTM winner then you are ineligible. If the truck was nominated but not selected as a ToTM winner then it may be nominated and compete in this month's category.
To Nominate:

You or someone else may nominate the vehicle. The nominee must be a board member and the current owner of the truck. Once you decide on who you wish to nominate, just add your nomination to this thread. We will need two pictures minimum (at least one full view of the vehicle) with/for the nomination as well as the owner’s board name, the Make/Model/Year of vehicle, and which family member the truck came from.

Nominees will run through November 23. The first 15 nominees that meet the criteria will participate in the contest. I will PM the nominees to get any additional data or pictures if they have not already been provided. If the owner has a preferred picture they want used in the contest, please let me know in a PM. You can PM me for an e-mail address in case anyone has problems resizing the pictures for the board. A Poll Thread will be set up by November 24 in this board area and an announcement will be posted on the Discussion Boards to notify all that voting has begun. The Poll will run thru the morning of December 1 and the official announcement of the winner will be on the evening of December 1. The announcement of the TOTM winner will be posted through the General Discussion Board area.

I will nominate my truck. My parents bought it new in 1969 and gave it to me in 1989 when I turned 16. I have put a lot of work into it since. Attached is the front page of a book my mom put together to commemorate our truck back in 2011.

Edit: I wanted to share a couple other items. My mother commissioned our long time family friend, Mike Hill, to paint an original water color. Attached is the picture of the original in my house and certificate of authenticity. Mike sadly passed away a few years ago, but his life lives on through his art. Check out his work, he focused on classic cars (https://mike-hill.pixels.com/art). Any Portland Or members may recognize his work since he painted many posters for car shows in the area.

Lastly, I am including pictures of the future owners of the truck

How about my '51. My parents bought it in '76 and it was my ride home from the hospital when I was born in '78.

It sat for many years in pieces. When my dad passed in 2005 I decided to put it back together.

Third photo is about 1980 just before it was taken apart.

Last photo is when I pulled it out of my parents back yard in 2005.

I will nominate myself. My wife's Grandpa bought the truck new, he used it as construction truck building houses for a few years, then a leisure vehicle when he retired. He passed away in the mid 90s and the truck went into storage. It was given to me roughly 15 years later and I started a restoration about 4 years ago.

1st picture is when I got it out of storage, the rest are current.

Hey! I qualify for this one.... I'll nominate me!

My older brother Jimmy gave me my '62 back in 2000. I still have it today... it's been through 2 makeovers under my watch.:chevy::chevy::chevy:

What a nice brother. The only thing my brother ever gave me was a black eye.

Thanks. It is pretty clear that these trucks mean a lot to all of us on this board.

My dad bought this 1976 Chevy Sport new and passed it on to me in 2006 when he passed. I bought a brand new 1977 Chevy Sport (wish I still had) and we used go fourwheeling with a group of truck drivers my dad worked with all the time. Truck has 360,000 miles with one repaint, timing chain, cam and lifters done once and interior redone.

I'm wondering if my '35 would qualify. It was a gift from my Mother in Law. She didn't want me to wait for her to be gone before we could enjoy it. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=799203
