Cab mounting questions...
 

Hey guys, I plan on trying to mount my front sheetmetal pretty soon. I welded on a camaro clip and Im finally getting around to putting stuff back together.

When I tore apart the truck I misplaced the old body mounts.:waah:

1) Do you guys know if there are spacers or cushings that mount between the frame mounts and the cab? same goes for the bed and front sheetmetal.
2) Do you know how thick they are? So I can use a piece of wood or steel wahser instead just for mockup.

LMC has pictures of the mounts. Mine had 1/4" steel between the cab and frame at the front and rubber at the back. I am going with rubber at all 4 points, but thinking about it the steel may be better to keep the fenders and doors in alignment.

The kit has a steel spacer washer and rubber gasket for the front mounts that totals 1/4" together and the rear has a thick bushing built more like a conventional body mount that measured .7" on the dial caliper. The bed mounting pads are about 1/4" thick rubber. Sorry I can't tell you about the stock front cushions, mine are home made and 1/2" thick. (Mounted a chevy core support on a GMC frame and had to fabricate mounts) Hope that helps.

Thanks guys, I have a bunch of little 1/4" square pads with holes drilled in them that I think Ill use for the front mounts and the bed.

OKGMC4, for the rear cab mounts, is the .7" including a steel spacer, or would the overall height be .95"?

It's .7 from the cab to the frame bracket. No steel washer. It's actually a two piece rubber, one between the cab and frame, and one under the frame. They cup each other. If you're familiar with Camaro or Chevelle body mounts you'll know what I mean. Keep in mind that I may or may not have to re-shim all this stuff. I've never had my front sheet metal on and aligned yet. I just put the mounts together as I bought them. Panel alignment is my least favorite thing to do other than bodywork!

OKGMC made a good point. The shims will affect the angle of the cab. That affects the alignment of the bed and radiator support that supports the hood and fenders. The key is to make sure the cab stays parallel with the frame so the bed does not look like it is running up or down. I am raising my cab slighting to get clearance at the trans and allow for wiring and em cable to run between the frame and cab and will have to deal with the alignment. Best to get it figured out during primer and before final assembly. Good news its not as critical as on the AD trucks!

I looked through my parts pile and I found the little square bushings, Ill be able to manage with them for mockup for now.
