9.00 16 tires
 

Looking for some tall skinny tires with old school look. Ok with bias unless there is a radial available. Has anybody run these and can give feedback. If anybody has photo on truck and actual measurements would be awesome thanks.

I like the look of the old school tires but I would not pay that much for them unless it was for a museum vehicle.

I measured one bald 750.16 bias that was not mounted and it was 30 inch tall also measured some 7.50 17 mounted aired up mud and snow bias lots of tread and it was 33 1/2 inches tall . I did not have a 9.0016 but I thinking they are shorter and maybe a little wider then 7.50 tires .

if not dead set on old school but want tall skinny go look for 255/85/16 . there a 33" tall skinny tire . like a 235/85/16 used on a lot of 3/4 and 1 ton trucks but there only 31.4" and the 255/85/16 is 33" tall . there is some knobby options for them .

Advertised height on these tires is 35 to 36 inches tall, just wondering if that's true as most of the tires that are 37 measure 35 etc. Also if any body has used either type of 9.00 16 would like feedback

Well, theoretically a 9.00/100-16 would be 34" diameter.

Might be considered blasphemous and not exactly what you are looking for but gets the job done. 33.6 can be achieved with either a 245/70R19.5 or bias ply 33X9.6R19.5
8R19.5 0r 33.6x8R19.5

8R19.5 will be skinny!

I'm hoping to find some used 19.5 RV camper rims. If not I just might bite the bullet and buy some new at Boarwheel.com

Also a category of tire called a steering wheel can also be tall and skinny. I saw some on a recap site.

A tall narrow tire is definitely the best in stuff like snow or mud that has a bottom. Even in rocks, why drive over if you can drive around or between? The rigs with wide tires sticking out both sides can't fit on narrow trails.

Most tires these days can hardly be called "narrow" except in proportion to height in some cases. Nothing is as narrow/tall as a 7.50-16 etc. A 10" tire was considered "wide" back in the 1970s but that's about a 255 today.

I'm going to be looking into something else to replace my factory 265/70R17 when it comes time. I've got all kinds of wheel well space under my 2500HD. I don't know what if any are alternate common sizes ... is 255/85R17 a thing?

I agree with narrow going through snow and mud easily. But the look is to be proportionately tall to fill the fender well. A 7.5 -16 is only 31.8 tall/diameter.

I have not seen a 255/85R 17 but a 255/80R17 should be 33.1 tall/diameter it is not so narrow as said at 10 inches compared to 7.5 or 8 inches. 255 is typical LTtruck or SUV width.

I feel to get narrow down to the 8.5 to 7.5 inches you have to increase the rim diameter. In my research the 17 or 18 inch rim are wide rims that in order to get a 33" diameter or better the minimum tire widths start at 255, and 285 respectively.

Prove me wrong but the 19.5 is a unique size relegated to 5th wheel campers and steering tires. There they make pizza cutter tires (8 wide by 33 high) for low rolling resistance or easy turning.

Anybody done it or am I going to be the first.

I've ran those Power King Super Traction tires on 4 different trucks. I loved them! They rode pretty good and you couldn't hardly get them stuck going forward and they wore really good. I never ran tubes in them and never had any trouble. We had a small family owned farm store in town and they always had them in stock. All the ranchers around here used them on their 1 ton 4x4s. I think they ran about 85.00 a tire the last time I bought them back in the mid 90s, I don't think you can even get them anymore. They measured about 34.5 when mounted, this is the only pic I can find right now....this was on my old 69 with 1 ton running gear.

19.5 8Rs are pretty skinny and that was the look I was going for on this truck.
And if your talking about a "steer tire" front axle tire....NEVER run a recap on the steer axle, you can get by with them on your drives if you want.

These are Cooper C140 19.5 8r they ride like you wouldn't believe and are balanced with Equal.

Are you talking about the dually above? It has American Force 19.5x6 alloy wheels. The tires are Cooper C140 drive tires and they measure just a little iver 34" tall.

Yes, and thank you. They look taller than 34", I was hoping they were around 35-36".

I never thought 7.50-16's looked small on 3/4 ton trucks. I like 235/85r16's nowadays unless it's lifted.

I really like those! They remind me of the old Armstrong and Norseman tires we ran in the 70s and 80s. I looked those up online and most places were out of stock on tbe 9.00x16s but found them at Nebraska Tire which I've dealt with before, 210.00 per tire...not to bad.

That's a funny looking 1957 napco lol, do you have these on your napco, what do you think of them and are they hard to balance?

They ride rough, not easy to balance, not cheap .....but I loved em. Had them shipped to me out of Nebraska.

I bought my 19.5s from Nebraska Tire, drove up there to have them mounted on my new alloy wheels, they would only balance with Equal. I was leary of it at first but that stuff works great!

I wish nebraska tire were closer to me, according to the web site would cost over 300 dollars in shipping. Called all the local tire shops and found one can get me the power kings for 230 dollars each . Told them to order them. Hope I like them I ve lost 500 years of sleep deciding. Just want the old school look and as tall as I can go. Truck has been lifted also since these photos.

these are the 900-16 STA superlug 36'ers on the k20.. btw, Coker does not make these and they may not be the cheapest retailer in your area..

while tall/skinny has been difficult to find, some manufacturers have responded to demand..

Interco for one has several newer tire models in both bias and radial in similar profiles.. I have TSLs on the blue k1500 but will likely replace with newer option..

Nice! Those will not only make the truck look great, but will give nice bite. I loved the no BS look of the trucks of the Rockies region when I spent time there in 40-45 years ago. Down in the flatland towns you might see some ranchers in for supplies, but mostly the chrome jobs cruising about. In the hills it was tall skinnies, winch, headache rack, and maybe you'd notice headers and a deeper tone from the pipes.

I used to run 9.00 -16s and so did my two friends. I ran CO-Op Grip Spurs. They must have been made by Gateway. They looked just like Monster Mudders. Then I went to Goodyear Extra Tractions. They lasted a lot longer. The Grip Spurs lasted about a year!. But they were hell on mud! (when new)

My two friends also had early K/30 duallies. First buddy had a machine shop make him 32 longer studs and a pair of thicker spacers for the rear. It wasn't cheap. Then our other buddy did some digging and found a stock stud size to work. When I got my duallie I did the same. First I had the 9.00s on my '69 W200 and they looked puny after I had been running 37/14.50s... as you would imagine. I couldn't handle the change and stuck with the huge tires on that truck. It looked like nothing else on the road. But the '80 K/30 flatbed I set up for siding was every bit as unique with the 9.00s. In a desperate attempt to share the only picture of that truck, that I just dug up this past week, I snapped a shot of the photo. A scanner would do better, if I had one. I also snapped one of Eric's '77 pickup. He is now my brother-in-law and that's my sister playing like she's drinking from a boot. And that's my old girlfriend trying to slap Eric with a steak. We were at a bull roast stay-over party and that's where they met. I apologize for the sorry pictures. Let's see just how bad they are

Awesome story. Appreciate your feedback. Vintage tall skinny is what I am looking for and the longer I wait the less available they become. These are new tires but have been sitting along time. Was able to get them locally. I figure I can also run some 37 12.5 17 on some dodge steel wheels if I decide to do a bunch of freeway driving.
