weight
Any of you guys scale your trucks? I found out my truck is a pig sat on the scales. What do you guys weigh?

Re: weight
I am curious of answers here, i'm nowhere near putting mine on a scale but I would like to know what a 67-72 shortbed 2wd weighs. I'm thinking 3200 to 3400 lbs but I may be off.

Re: weight
Im 230, with 2 full NOS bottles and a full tank of gas I was at 3965. With 43.6 on the rear. I have a 57 cab and bed but it cant be that much more that yours

Re: weight
I was at 3703 lbs (as measured with aircraft scales at all 4 corners), but after I am done this winter I should be down to around 3550, hopefully.
sbc, 10 gal of fuel in a 20 gal aluminum fuel cell. |
Re: weight
mine weighed 3950 before the glass hood and removing a few other things.. I'm thinking it might weigh 3800 or so now...I'll weigh mine again this spring

Re: weight
1980 Chev Stepside: 3800 lbs. All iron big block, 1/2 tank of fuel, TH400 and a dry rot wood bed. Weighed it last summer.

Re: weight
3950 lbs
1969 LWB Fleet, 5.3/4L60E (at the time, 4L80E now) half tank of fuel, no driver, full interior, air bags on all 4 corners. |
Re: weight
Last time on the scale it was 3,620, full tank of gas 16 gallons, me in it (200lbs) and about 100lbs added to the tailgate. I redid the exhaust recently and probably down another 20-30lbs.. Truck is 51% front and 49% rear. Keep in mind though I have done a lot to get the weight down and run and alum block/heads, no hood, no inner fenders. However, the 4L80E I have in it is flipping heavy.. Shipping weight with a factory verter with no fluids on a pallet was 270lbs..

Re: weight
It's pretty light for a truck for sure.. DJ still has me beat though with his big block and cage to boot. There is a bit more weight for me when my wallet allows..
I still need to: Mount the fiberglass front I have (guessing it's another 30-40lbs out) Build a new frame Do a Mustang 2 style front suspension with rack and pinion Switch to a glide I could see with the above getting another 200-300 out of it. |
Re: weight
Wow, guess mine is a lightweight, my backhalved 66 with street grade USbody source front fenders and hood, 3385 pounds with 6 gallons of fuel, plus my pfhatass @ 195 for 3580 sitting in the beams.

Re: weight
Marv, our trucks are now very close in weight.. What did you say back halfing shaved again? 2x3 or 2x4 box and what wall thickness? If memory serves you did a ladder bar as well right?
|
Re: weight
Mines the Alston urathane bushed street 4link package. Prebent 2x3 framerails with Alstons NHRA+ wall thickness (pretty sure it was .130" wall). Really don't know what I saved weight wise,, loosing the frame rails, the wood bed, the truck 12bolt, stock steel wheel tubs, with trailing arm suspension ... and replacing with the light weight frame rails, narrowed 9" with light disks, coil-over suspension,, sheeeeze. Probably 300-400 pounds +. The bedsides are original steel, but everything else from the cab back was whacked, replaced with aluminum, or plain ol deleted.

Re: weight
mine is pretty light, 3475 with me in it according to the scale at my local nhra track. 3300 without me. its an iron headed small block with a four speed. its all steel, just missing some stuff. no inners, rad support is lightened, plastic race seats, lexan side windows with no regulators, still have the wing windows and others are still glass. no heater or any other stuff not needed, no tailgate or back bumper.

Re: weight
There are quite a few guys on dragstuff with big body cars running glides. The issue with them is the very soft 1st gear. But if you run the right converter, they can be effective, but t really depends on your combo. Since my motor is sorta soft on TQ NA, it would not be the best choice, but, since i plan on spraying a decent shot of N20, it could be very effective with the huge increase in TQ.
I'd say in short, for a heavy vehicle TQ helps a lot, but that's with most all tranny's.. |
