LS into K5-Who did your wire harness?

I'm trying to find a good deal to have someone modify my stock harness from a 2003 5.3 to drop it into my 1979 K5. I have a local guy who's gonna do my tuning. Local told me about a place in Texas but I cant seem to find where I wrote down the name -.-;;

Any suggestions guys? Budget is the name of the game! :lol:

Thanks!

I used fuelinjectionconnection (there are a few companies with similar names, this is how they are listed). They made me a very beautifully done harness, all brand new o.e. quality (probably better) wire and connectors. Came setup for however I asked, and even sent out replacement pigtails overnighted for FREE when I screwed something up (no fault of theirs at all).

Cant say enough about the quality. Included an underhood fuse panel, very cleanly made and loomed. Everything was labled 100% correctly, and included a nice thick detailed instruction manual. All it took was hooking up I think 6 actual wires. My dad is an old school 3-wire kinda guy, and even he remarked how easy it was to hook up. We put the harness in under 30minutes.

You have got to be picky when it comes to choosing a harness manufacturer! There are some quality harness manufacturers out there, but unfortunately-for every quality harness builder there are probably 5-10 that really do not build a harness that would be considered a quality harness assembly.

Now, dont take this as me pointing out any specific harness builder. The link posted is an example of some of the things that I have seen with harnesses that have been sent to me for repair because they were non working harness assemblies. The page in the link is not meant to make you decide to purchase anything from us or any other company. It is there to help you make an educated decision on purchasing a Quality Harness assembly. It is there to help you guys ask the right questions when you call a company to inquire about a harness.

One of the biggest things that goes unseen in a harness is the Crimp Quality, as it is hidden by the connector. Delphi ratcheting crimpers are used to assemble some harnesses, and they DO NOT achieve a solderless crimp. They are meant for REPAIR use only. This is detailed in the SPX SAE manual for these tools. Sargent/SPX is the company contracted to manufacture the repair tools. Here is a link to the manual.

Rennsteig Hand Frames and Die Sets are the ONLY Hand tool that is meant for manufacturing Harness Assemblies. Sadly, only a small percentage of companies that hand build harnesses utilize these awesome tools!

One more corner that is cut by many companies is the color coding of the harness assembly. Many, Many companies use their own color coding! Imagine the nightmare of trying to trouble shoot with a GM Schematic!!!

Again, Please dont take this a me pointing anyone out! This page is just there to show what goes into manufacturing a Quality Engine Harness Assembly.

I also used the info on LT1 swap.com and did my own. It was a very fun sub project that took a week or so in the basement shop but it was a lot of fun and I think I learned a few things in the process. I had a friend buy his and he had an issue with 2 wires being swapped causing him a lot of time and frustration. As Bill said be picky!

Just in case you decide to do your own, and want to have a nice fuse block assembly. We do sell a DIY kit that comes with everything needed to modify your harness. Many customers have mentioned how much easier it made modifying their harness, and you can customize it on the site as you order it!!
