Blazer Tank Install
 

I hate to ask this question, I've searched for blazer tank install and come up with dozens of references for putting a blazer tank in a c10. This should be simple, installing a blazer tank in a blazer.

Two straps, 4 bolts, and a tank can't be complicated, but I seem to be missing something. The straps seem too "tall" by about 2 inches. The tank inlet also seems to be located directly behind the body mount.

The bolts on the tank line up perfectly with holes in the frame, but maybe those holes aren't original?

The tank isn't a ebay special, its from one of the vendors on this site, so I'm guessing I'm just way off on the installation, so maybe someone will see something I'm missing.

you need the old neck off the blazer tank. Otherwise Hose with the steel in it so it won't collaspe

Thanks guys. When I got the blazer the tank it had looked home made, I assumed it was an attempt at a larger tank. Was horrible and went to the dump months ago, but I did save the hose, more are a template knowing it would need to be replaced.

Now I understand the missing part, although it looks like it bolts on, and the tank I purchased doesn't have any studs to bolt anything to. Looks like I need to source a filler neck, or make something somehow

It's bolted and also solder on I know most people are taking their new tanks to a radiator shop to have the neck soldiered on. I have factory straps and at least one good spacer and the little square pieces that go on before the nuts if interested send me your zip and I will get you a quote with shipping.

The aftermarket straps and 'J' bolts leave a lot to be desired, if you can source out OEM pieces you'll be way ahead

I have the 2 straps 1 good spacer the other is junk but could be used until you found another one. The 2 square plates that go on before the nuts and I do have the correct u shaped bolt but the one end broke off so I welded back together. It will work but not look the greatest. 35 for the straps 15 for the good spacer will throw the other one in. 5 for the 2 square plates and 5 for the ubolt. Total 60 and 15 shipping let me know if you want all or just part. I can get a picture of the u-bolt tomorrow if you want to see it.

Thanks, my quarter panel tube is in great condition. I'll think about how to solve the tank filler issue a bit more, something will come to mind if a work a bit harder on the solution.

There's a guy down here near Kodak that has a 67-72 chevy truck and Blazer graveyard.

Look on Knoxville craigslist to get his contact info.....he may have what you need.......he will ship small stuff.
I got a complete automatic transmission linkage set up from him for my Blazer build.

Here is what I did for the fill when I installed an LMC metal remanufactured tank -

I used the stock quarter panel fill tube. From the tank fill I used a piece of 1-1/2" 90° Fuel hose that I bought from Amazon, I went to an exhaust shop and had them bend me piece of 1-1/2" exhaust tubing 120° which got me around the body mount and made it a straight shot to the quarter panel fill with a cutoff piece of 1-1/2" straight fuel hose from the 90° that went on the tank.

The straps that came with the LMC tank worked fine, but I also had all of the other mounting pieces from the stock tank.

Blazers use a 1-3/8 ID hose. I had difficulty finding one up here.

$15.00 potential solution

I picked up a couple of copper 1 1/4 street ells. The "big" end is a perfect slip fit over the tank inlet, the "small" end is 1 3/8 OD, so its a perfect receptor for the gas hose.

I had to trim about a inch off the tank filler tube to insure no interference with the frame or body mount, but I suspect no two of these import tanks are the same so this might not work for everyone.

I researched copper for gas line, but the only reference I could find was that the coast guard requires copper line on boats, maybe it's preferred in saltwater environments. Anyone know of any issues using copper?

Still have to figure out a better solution on the straps.....

Interesting solution on the fill neck.
I'd say buy factory straps and spacers as shown above or at least factory straps and fab your own spacers.

I have a blazer the PO did a new neck like the copper. One piece looks like it probably some piece of a small car/ tractor exhaust

do you have to cut the cross stills on a stepside bed when you relocate the tank on a truck under the bed?

You do if you are going to mount the tank flanges against the frame (I would recommend this). Some of the videos I have seen of people putting in tanks show them spacing the tank down and cutting the frame to clear the filler (I would NOT do this). I have the blazer tank in my frame and will soon be working out the bed if you want to take a look at my build.

yeah i would love to see that and also i have seen some people cut the cross stills and some not cut them so that is what is confusing me on the tank install
