ly6 main caps
 

got my block back from the machine shop today and the machinist left the main caps off and had them in a box. i didnt think to ask him which way they faced to the front because i figured they had a arrow on them. the only marks are the numbers and 2 dots on one side. which side should the dots or numbers be in relation to the front of block. thanks paul

The “wings” on the outer edges of the caps, where the side bolts go, go to the rear if I remember right. I think that puts the arrows to the front, right? I’m not able to look at my LY6 block and caps at the moment or I would verify.

thanks 57 i will have to check my caps again but i didnt see any arrows.

the front 4 caps, the 'wings' will face to the back.
rear most main cap, wings will face to the front of block.

1 and 5 are the same cap, so go by the numbers.
2,4 are also same so check for the numbers on them. Sometimes the numbers are fairly faint but should be there.

Awesome, I went to the shop today and checked and got the same results you posted. I took too many engines apart in the last couple weeks and got mixed up, mine don’t have arrows either.

thanks guys im trying to get all the parts together to put this thing back together. first time working on a ls engine
