Is a 2003 Yukon XL a good rig?
Looked a a 2003 Yukon xl today and was wondering if anyone has or had one and if the model had any type of common issues/problems? Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks, Jeff |

Re: Is a 2003 Yukon XL a good rig?
I love ours, They have a few issues but mostly were worked out under warranty. The factory equipped a/c compressors tended to grenade internally but usually under 30k miles on them. Ours has 82k on it, we bought it at 58k and have done nothing but oil changes and a rear window motor that were out of pocket expenses. I replaced the cluster under GM special policy warranty when the speedometer stopped working. It needs an intermediate steering shaft but I just lube it every other oil change. Overall they're good trucks with very little to worry about and are a real bargain as cheap as they have become in the past year.

Re: Is a 2003 Yukon XL a good rig?
Thanks for the good info. I have found a very, very clean, loaded 2003 with 110K miles and its a 4x4 to boot. It doesn't look much bigger than my grand Cherokee when you are looking out the front windshield but when you look back, its a long way to the back of the vehicle.
I need to get a carfax on it, not sure its the "one" yet but for what they are asking and its condition has me thinking pretty hard. Thanks again! |

Re: Is a 2003 Yukon XL a good rig?
Good rig but the 2003 is a one off electrical system. The wiring for a brake controller requires a new pig tail available from the dealer to solve a trailer brake activation problem. 2004 fixed that problem. The gauge cluster issue is common, as is the 4whl drive switch going out and the fuel pump.
I have an 03 Z71 Suburban and like it but I wish I had waited for an 05. 110,000 miles is alot for one of these rigs. Things will go wrong on it. I would buy a new one with lower miles. |

My wife has a 02 with 109,000 on it now, The only thing I have had to do to it is replace the rear e-brake shoes. Other than that, just normal maint. When I was at the dealer i saw them regularly with 200k plus and still running great.
