Anyone tried 3/4 ton A arms to replace 1/2 ton???

How much else did you have to change out??

I let a local shop change out my shocks when my back was injured, and it looks (feels) like they broke something on my suspension (alignment shop said I needed to replace the lower A-Arm).

A quick search at LMC revealed a 3/4 ton OEM replacement A-Arm, but nothing for the 1/2 ton.

Has anyone tried it? What else did it take? Anyone know of a driver's side A-Arm that will fit an '86 in good condition?

Uhhh lower Arm is just a peice of steel with a ball joint in one end and a couple bushings in the other. Short of being cracked I see no reason why you need a whole A Arm. You can get the Ball joints and bushings at Aurtozone. Looking on www.AutoZone.com site they do sell a over sized lower ball joint if the hole has been wallowed out. $17 . The bushings are $7 each (need 4 per side).
Advance is the same prices but the also offer a shaft kit that has bushings and the part that bolts to the saddle for $49. The also offer one that looks like is for a lowered truck that has more camber in it for $54.

Ahh under ball joints it shows a lower control arm for $100 and my guess is it includes ball joint and the bushings as well as the arm to deal with a wallowed out hole for the ball joint.

http://www.napaonline.com/ is about hte same for the off brand stuff.

Ohh yeah the saddle (the part the suspension bolts to that goes under the engine) is different on a 3/4 There may be no way to put a 3/4 part on it.

Cool thanks for the research.. I keep forgetting about Napa, and the local autozone and advance are pretty clueless :)

Well.. Advance had the pax side listed, but when they searched they came up with a TRW 10904 as the driver side (I assume it's the driver side, as the only time it acted funny was when making a left turn...) but couldn;t even special order one.
<sigh>

I have a set of 3/4 tons and a set of 1/2 tons and the only thing that looks different is the ball joint, but the key word is LOOKS, I haven't measured these or anything like that, just looked at them....

The Arm at LMC includes the ball joint, so that may well be why they're stating that it's 3/4 ton only...
