Fuel Tank Conversion??

I have a 1967 chevy short box step side 2wd.
I want the gas tank out of the cab. I don't want a fuel cell in the box.
Has anyone put a tank between the frame rails in the back of the truck. I know about the eraly classic conversion but thats a little pricy. I am not sure if this is the right message board.

thanks ken

PM Fuelcellguy. He sells aluminum tanks to fit between the rear rails. I'm having the metal shop guy at my dads work fab me a stainless tank, he's doing it for $120 and giving me the SS for free (scrap from a job they recently did, medical grade stuff)!

I have been seeing people just put 67-72 blazer tanks in the frames. fuelcellguy has put together alot of the members tanks, and havent heard one disappointment. I too am thinking of going with him, when I get to that point.

I did that on my 87. I went with a poly tank from Summit. Didn't want to risk sparks in case something pierced the tank. It's a fairly easy conversion.
CaptKaos used a Blazer tank, here's his article;

I followed in the steps of bigblock73;

Only difference is I used square tube instead of c-channel for the crossmember.

I don't have my finished pictures here at work. I bought a 6" deck plate from a marine store to use as access in the bed floor to the gas cap. I did run into a few problems along the way, had to tweak the placement of the fuel pump & I still can't get my gas gauge to work.

I don't know the 67-72 frame well enough to say what differences there are in your mod.
