PONTIAC in Chevy pic
 

I tried takin a pic of the motor mounts, but it didn't come out, and since I am using the old 35mm, I won't get to retry till this weekend. However, here is the pic of the whole engine compartment.
OLDCHEV's friend, Jeff is a Pontiac fanatic, and said he looked at the numbers and off the top of his head believes it is a 350.
I know it has a tiny @ss 2 barrel carb, HEI, int. Reg. alt. on it, and lots of slime and oil on top of an almost ford lookin blue paint.
It looks like it was almost a bolt in afair, althoguh it does seem to sit a little higher than a Chevy small block.
After some research, i find the Pontiac 350 is actually a good motor for a truck. I do not remember the actual measurements, but I know it has the longest stroke of all G.M.'s 350 motors, which makes it a natural for high torque. I'm a pontiac nut and would like the 455 out of my Firebird in mine someday. Want to put a 428 in the bird. More pictures would be great.

Good to see this. I am about to drop in a 403 Olds motor and TH-350 trans into a 70 LWB. Are the mounts diferent then the usual chevy mounts? I bought new motor side mounts for the truck and figured they would bolt right up to the 403....

I used to have a 69 LeMans with that motor. I had to drill holes through the head in each rocker arm stud and put pin through them because they were popping out after the rebuild. The rebuils was stock except for a mild cam. I stepped on it after my breaking in period was over and popped 3 rockers. So my Dad and I pinned all of them.

I like to see the different ones! I guess my imagination is warped,but for a few yrs I ran what I could get my hands on(as long as it was BIG!). The olds was sitting a little high in my longhorn also. I used the stands & bottom brackets from a late 70s truck/with a 5.7 deisel. The mount is different than the chev mount,but the deisel mount crossed with an Olds car mount. I think if you could get a set of 72 BB stands,you could use an Olds car mount & bracket to get the nose height down on the 403 olds swap. Mine was a weld in swap.....none of the bolt holes lined up,& was also moved back(required cutting the firewall around the head & reworking).......the Olds will fit without that mod,but I have always tryed to move back any weight that I could. I've been thinking of Putting a Poncho in one also. I've seen several in magazines and one on ebay that were Poncho powered, but have never talked to anyone to get the specifics on the conversion. IndianOutlaw is a Pontiac Fan isn't he? He ever tried a switch??

Some of you might already know this, but all Pontiac V-8s had the same dimensions. Hence, where a (Pontiac)350 will fit, a (Pontiac)455 will fit also. You can build a real powerhouse out of a Pontiac as any Ram Air parts (i.e. Heads, Cam, etc.)will bolt right in. SuperDutys and 455HOs were a bit different, though. I'm working on contacting a couple of guys that are running built-up Ponchos in their 67-72s, to see if they can give me a step-by-step on the swap. will post if anybody is interested.

I'm interested. Did see a 80's model Chevy truck out local junc yard that had a 350 Pontiac motor in it.

the only diff. in the SD's and HD's were the heads and exh. manifolds. i've only owned pontiac and chevrolets in my 25 years of auto lunacy. diff. i mean as in outside physical difference.

longhornmail, thanks for posting this pic! Of in my opinion this truck really needs a GTO tripower intake :-)
The rear main seal on my BBC is leaking pretty bad, and I think it needs to come out to fix that. Maybe I should slip a spare tripower 455 Poncho in there?!

While junkyarding, i have proably seen 5-10 junkyard trucks with BOP engines in them, i am assuming of pretty good size (400+ cubes) b/c they all had factory 4bbl intakes on them. I guess they are a cheap way to put big power in these trucks.....

My Daily-Driver: '72 Chevy LWB Custom/10. Rebuilt 350, 300 HP thanks to a few go-fast goodies. Ochre with a white top. Future plans include a frame off restoration, and maybe a blown 383.

From what I am told, if you get motor mounts from a big body car like a 70 bonneville, all you have to do is drill a couple holes in the cross member and bolt it in! I do not think Pontiacs are a cheap way to go, unless your putting in a running used motor found cheap, these engine are expensive to rebuild! I have a 428 and a th400 short tail sitting and waiting for my truck. 3,800 just into the long block no accessiories yet, fluid damper, demon card, large 4 tube headers, and various other crap. If I could swing the money I would like to go with a tremec transmission or maybe a muncie I have sitting here? To far to talk about when I have not started the truck yet! Maybe longhornmail will sell me that short gmc?
