how to fix loose steering?
The steering is pretty loose in the 77, what do I need to check? I'd like to tighten it back up, make it feel solid. It does have power steering.

Check the play in the balljoints, pitman arm and idler arm.

What's loose? Like 5-8 said track down where the play is coming from. My guess is a front end rebuild kit should be on your "To do" list....
|
it also could be your steering box. you can pick one up in a junk yard for 20 bucks.
|
check the tie rods and rag joint where the shaft goes into the box also.
but there really isn't going to be something you can "adjust". you most likely have some worn out steering components that need replaced. there is adjustment in the steering box but with other things worn out its not going to help anything |
Thanks for the replies guys! Where can I order a front end rebuild kit from? I'll check around as time permits today at work. Trying to price my to-do list and prioritize things, with safety issues coming first.

I would get their bushing kit and then use Moog tie rods, pitman and idler arm. |
$189 for the kit, not bad!
