Anyone have a billet grill insert on a 72?
Anyone have a billet grill insert on a 72 Chevrolet?
If so, Did you keep the bowtie on the grill? How hard was the installation? Where did you buy the grill? Have any pictures of it in place? I'm looking at something like: http://www.brothersonlinestore.com/images/BILSTD1.jpg BROTHERS Billet Grill Insert- $219.95 |
I have the billet grille. I just removed the bowtie completely. Unless you get a billet aluminum bowtie for the billet grille, it wont look right IMO. I know its fun to show off the bowtie but i dont think it looks good in the center of a custom grille.

LMC sells their billet grills for i think 170 dollars

i don't have a billet i've got the stainless square tube grill it was on the truck when i got it, it's a ***** to open the hood cause the bars are so close together the billet grills i've seen are even worse so make plans for a remote hood opener

724x4a/cchevy,
Did you relocate your hood opener? If so, what parts and vehicles did you rob them from to make it work? Looking at doing the same with a 72. Thanks, James |
for a remote hood opener i was looking at the kit oreilly sells in the heir HELP! section. its actually a repair kit for vehicles that already have it. but i beleive it could be rigged up...

I have a Carriage Works billet grille (no bowtie), that I am very happy with, and I got it cheaper than other brands too. I saw a post from another member (cannot remember who it was) about using a rod from the hood latch down to a spot behind the bumper, and used that method. I just reach back behind the front bumper and push up on the rod to release the hood. Simple and has worked perfect. Another member had commented on how easy it was to bend the bars in the billet grill reaching through for the latch, and it is easy to do, as well as being hard to trip the latch. I would consider using a remote from inside the truck also, if someone comes up with a good idea. Here is a pic of my grill the day I installed it:
