Front Airbag Idea: Bags instead of 2" Drop springs?

What I'm thinking about doing. Is getting the bolt-in front bag kit from KP, and bolting it in, instead of doing drop springs.
Reason being...with the bags, I could TAILOR the front drop, I wouldn't get a SPECIFIC amount, I could get the EXACT amount I want, so I can drive around and not rub the front tires, but at the same time, be as low as possible. A friend of mine had his set up like this, and I must say, it rode nice! What do you guys think?
Run something like this:

Set at like 85psi, so it wouldn't be FULLY aired up, but it wouldn't be LAID OUT.

Its what you should do imo. Airbags are a great way to get exactly what you want. Go with the bigger 2b7 or 2600 bags up front and you will use less air to get to the same height, giving an even better ride. Dont forget a good shock also and you'll be in heaven. You can air up and drive around, lay out when parked, or lay out when you want to drag on some old lady next to you. Just whatever you needs.

With shocks, i havent found a front end setup that doesnt ride good. You'll still need the crossmember notch to be laid but if you dont wanna be laid, then you dont have to do it.

Yeah, the ONLY thing I want is around a 5" drop...but I want to do this, so LATER if I DO decide to go all the way, I can at least already have the front done.

I hate to point out the obvious, but that is one of the main reasons to use airbags.

That depends. With bags or ppl that admire old trucks and stuff, we kinda intertwin with various ppl that like different styles. Old trucks brings hot rodders, pro street, sport truck, and restorers together, for the love of the same vehicles.

Now with bags, its the same.

Not all setups are geared to laying out. If you are a hot rodder, build your truck to be nice, have great power, etc. then bags are there for the ride. Just like old Ford coupes that are bagged, old trucks that are built by hot rod ppl like Scotts and Boyd's, arent made to lay out, just made to lay low.

So depending what you're into, style wise, bags can just be for ride and to lay lower then stock, but not really wanting to lay.

If you wanted it Low, High, Stock or minimum, you could get it exactly like you wanted it AND get a good ride.

Wow man you read my mind. I've been spinning ideas in my head for a 67 SB that I've had my eye on for a while and will end up purchasing here in the next few weeks. I want to be low for shows but be able to drive around with my truck pretty much at stock height.

Sublvr72 05-26-2004 05:31 AM

sounds good, I was running this 5-6" static drop before the bags, consisting of cut coils (around 3"-4" drop, plus 2 1/2" drop spindles.

Here's a pic of my Burb bagged w/ 1.5 crossmember drop and bags on the arms on the rear. Lays the pinchweld when air'd out. :metal:

I wanna know if I can go as low as SubLuvr with bags and keep my inner fenders. Anyone know?

If you run 20's you can go as low as this pic. It will lay out w/ inner fenders if you run 18's. In the pic I posted the tires are sittin' against the inner fenders in the front, it's pretty low but not as low as Sublvr.

pieced it together from the former sport truck specialties, totally polished, and IF customs. (all local custom car/truck shops)

KutThroatKustoms 05-27-2004 06:01 PM

IF? I'm guessing you have a 2 link in the back huh? (no offence, its just the main thing they install/sell)
