Shop/garage floor coating?
I want to paint the floor of my new shop before I start moving junk in. What would you recommend I use? I have seen the 2-part coatings at Home Depot and Lowe's also has a 1 gallon latex concrete paint. Also how much would I need to cover 1200 sq.ft.?
Thanks |

I used the BEHR brand concrete sealer from Home Depot on my garage floor and I love it! I would recomend it for the weekend wrench, not industrial. I beleive it was epoxy. I did my floors before I moved my junk in. I recomend you use the primer, some areas where I did not use it chipped a bit ( my own fault). I have been more than happy with the rest of the surface. I have dragged heavy jacks and jack stands accross it and it dosent even seem to scratch, and oil spills are a breeze.
My garage is about 1000 sq ft and I used every bit of 2 gallons, would recomend 3 for your size, and don't forget the primer. It ran me about $100, and they can mix it into most colors. |
yeah i just got back from Home Depot and saw the behr brand you mentioned. It is epoxy and I will probably go with it. The pisser is... new concrete has to cure for 30 days before application! so I will have to wait. I already had plans to move stuff in weekend after next. I guess I'll move stuff in that will be easily removed. it says that it'll cover 400-500 sq.ft on smooth concrete and 250-300 on rough surface... I'll go with 3 gallons and primer and it also says you can add in a non slip additive... I may do that also... the concrete is pretty smooth now. I would hate to slip and bust my butt. Thanks for the responses.

I bought 2 Rustoleum epoxy kits. No surface etching or primer is needed. I will be painting the floor real soon and will post results!

If my memory serves me right, you also have to etch the concrete on new floors before using the primier....
|
You definitely want to etch if you want it to last...

the epoxy you guys are talking about... is it clear?

Usually a gray paint.
