Dana rear ends
was the Dana rear end a common rear end that was installed on chevy trucks, or did they only come on certain packages? I looked up the info on mine and it says that it is a Dana 70 with 3.54 gears .Will this help the value of my truck?

You should have the Dana 60 in your truck. Dana 60 with 3.54 gears was the standard/normal set up behind a big block engine in a 3/4 ton truck. You can identify it by taking a close look at the housing. You will see a 60 in the casting.
As far as value. I prefer the Dana but wouldn't pay more for a truck just because it had one. Now if it had posi or a locker in it, that would increase value whether it was the Dana or the Corporate/Eaton rear end. |
there is a I.D . tag bolted to the cover plate on the rear end . it says 46- 13 (for teeth)that number only corresponds to part # 72168-5X which is a Dana 70

when looking at your rearend, there should be the model number cast into the webbing around the differential in the lower right hand corner. you may need to use a lil sandpaper to make it show. it will say "60" or "70". if there is a dana 70 in your truck, then it isn't stock...only 60's came in 3/4 ton trucks.
also, there should be a bill of materials number (BOM) stamped into the right hand axle tube. this is usually hard to find, but if you find it you can search the internet to find out what your rearend originally came under. |
