Speedo drive gear
 

Anyone have a clue were I can buy a new speedometer drive gear? The one thats inside of the transfer case. Mine is stripped out and the local napa guy just looks at me with nothing to say. Its for a 205. Thanks for any help

I tried that and was told they are no longer available :(

id try another gm dealer as they should be able to check gm dealers in the whole country and tell you one that still has some in stock.

I found this web site, and I think they sell the gears there. Might check them out.

Here is a source for drive gears for your NP 205. They have them in stock, $22 each. There are two different drive gears, so you will want to count the teeth. It should have 6 or 8 teeth.

Here is a link to their site but there is not a listing for the gears in the transfer case parts section.. There are no part numbers on the drive gears according to the rep that I spoke with.

I have a new GM speedo drive unit for an NP203 which should be the same as the one for a NP205. This comes in three pieces, the adapter (the part that the cable connects to), the sleeve (the part that screws into the case) and the gear (the part that goes into the case that connected to the sleeve). These usually leak after 70,000 miles or so. They leak in three places, between the case and the sleeve, the non-replaceable seal inside the sleeve and the adpater. These have not been available from GM for two years.

Anyone know how to install one? Do you have to tear into the t-case or does it come out through the cable hole? My speedo is not working either.

Try this:
Remove the cable from the adpater. Unscrew the adapter from the sleeve. Unscrew the sleeve from the case and carefully pull the sleeve and the gear shaft out. The are two pieces one inside the other. The gear is machined into the end of the shaft. Remove the gear shaft from the sleeve. Take your new gear and insert it into the sleeve and carefully slide this back nto the T-case. The gear shaft drops in size from one side of the gear to the other. The smaller end goes into the gear shaft bushing inside the T-case. Once it starts into this bushing slide the shaft into the t-case carefully then screw the sleeve into the case then the adapter into the sleeve, then the cable. Be careful, you can drop the gear shaft inside the case, the seal outside the sleeve and inside the sleeve can be torn and cannot be replaced without buying a whole sleeve.
