changing dash bezel
I am thinking about changing my dash bezel soon because the existing chrome on it is in bad shape.I have the tach. and guages oil, temp ,amps. Any tips on how to make it an easy job?I only want to exchange the front bezel that you see from the cab.Any tips on preventing a problem when reinstalling it?

OK I will take a stab at it.
1st disconnect your battery. Then remove headlight switch knob by reaching under the dash on top of headlight switch and pressing the button you find there while pulling headlight switch knob all the way out. Also reach up under dash and disconnect speedo, oil pressure gage, and wiring harness from back of instrument cluster. Remove windshield wiper switch knob (allen screw holds it on I think). Remove the piece holding the rubber thing on the steering column and slide it up out of the way. Remove the screws holding the bezel in, tip the top toward you and work it out. It's not a hard job just don't get in a hurry or use too much force on it. |
When taking the original apart, note the postion of the "monkey dung" that cushions the parts and where the green and red lens fit over the lights. The first time I did it I got amber directional lights instead of green. Good time to clean everything and paint gauge needles if needed. Not a big deal.

Take the opportunity to paint that nasty light green backing white or silver, it's supposed to brighten everything up!
