who carries a spare?
 

I was curios if anyone carries a spare tire with them. I thought I would be able to fit one in the back of the K5 but It looks like its going to be about an inch to big. Any Ideas other than a roof rack to keep a 35" spare?

i don't keep a spare, but i do keep jumper cables, 1 gallon of water, quart of water and ATF and a towel.

1 spare
1 floor jack
1 quart of oil
1 quart of tranny oil
1 floor mat (bed mat actually)
1 tool box (when going out of town only)

I dont carry a spare but as for carrying your 35" spare, you could air it down and keep a 12v air compressor onboard at all times.. those compressors are pretty cheap and come in handy if youre deep in the woods or desert or something... That, and a can of Ether starting fluid to re-seat a popped bead..

Get a cheap 12v compressor. Then let the air out of the spare and it will fit. :D

Dont go to crazy with the starting fluid, I have seen them jump pretty high 4-5ft. Run a line around the inside of the tire, then a line over the sidewall and down the ground away from the tire. Lite the part farthest away from the tire.

i dont carry a spare either

no spare here. Do have a backpack with fire exstingisher, plyers, 1qt tranny fluid, 1qt motor oil, 1 bottle brake fluid, 1 bottle power steerings, electrical tape, super glue, tire pressure gauge, .25 auto pistol, a one size fits all socket wrench, jumper cables, a work light that takes power from the car battery and a tow strap. O yeah and a can of diet coke. Need to be prepared :) I keep my spare at home. If I need it I call someone.

The spare rack is long gone on my 77. When I travel I carry a spare laying in the bed. I still haven't checked to see if it will clear my caliper though... :rolleyes:

I used to...now i just got a 6D mag light and a roll of electrical tape!

All I carry is a fire ext. I figure if something happens to my truck, I'll walk. I need to lose some weight.

i have my aaa card. if i go on a long trip i will throw it in the bed, but my new tires are run flats :metal:

If you don't have a spare buy a can of fix a flat and throw it under your seat. Takes up very liitle space and works better than a sharp stick.

I have my spare in the bed...but doubt if it has air. I do carry a can of fix-a-flat, tarp, oil, WD40, rope, bungy cords, frisbee, shop rags, plastic cups, funnel and water proof matches all in a crate in the tool box.

I carry a spare under my bed. Had to modify the location from stock due to my hitch being in the way, but I managed to squeeze it in there. Also remember that when mounting a spare under a pickup, mount it so that the valve is facing out! Makes it a lot easier to check the air pressure in it to make sure that it would be ready if you need it! :)

I always carry extra socks............ I hate to have wet socks! I have AAA. I carry enough stuff, that I could probably rebuild a truck, in my tool box. It is stuffed with tools, water, oil, tranny fluid, a chain, tow strap, crow bar, etc. I also have a kit to plug tires if needed.

fix a flat is such a crock, I don't fall for that stuff anymore. Tried it on a tire for my 78, now the tire is still flat and the valve is sealed shut from the fix a flat.

project #2 for me this week is to make me my custom spare tire mount. my truck didn't come with anything so im starting from stratch.

I wouldn't carrying the fixaflat in the cab. With hot temperatures it can explode open and the fumes are very toxic to breath. I wouldn't want to take the risk of carrying it in the cab.

ORD Sells a bumper for K5s I believe that has a swing out spare tire carrier on it, you may could build something similar and put the tire on the outside. I wouldn't put it up on top because it will only add weight to the top of your truck and increase the center of gravity, good idea to keep stuff like that low as possible.
