Does anyone know were to get 1969 big block motor mounts other then LMC.
Will the engine cradles mounts, the ones that mount to the frame, from a 72 big block work on a 69 big block. The mounts for the 72s are allot cheaper and easier to get so I was thinking of changing the cradles so I could use the 72 mounts

Same here,anybody know what has to be done to use 72 bb mounts & stands on a 69.Something about spacers under the top bolts for the stands?Thanks,Mike

Here's the Tx Firefighter secret of the day.

I've done 2 big block swaps now, one into my 69 and another into my 70.

You have to pretty much run a big block frame stand for exhaust clearance. I haven't ever found a header or manifold that will clear a big block on small block or inline 6 frame stands. The proper big block frame stands have a dish in them for exhaust clearance.

The 68-71 big block frame stands are cheap. They sell for 60 to 100 bucks per pair on the parts board all the time. The downside is that everyone says the rubber part of the mounts will cost you a fortune.

72 frame stands are expensive as hell. Expect to pay like 150 to 200 for a set of them. The upside though, is the rubber part is dirt cheap.

It's a trade off you see? Cheap stands, expensive mounts or the other way around...

Here is what I've done. Use the cheap early style big block stands with a 6 dollar small block rubber mount. It bolts right on. No clearance issues. They last too. My first big block swap was in 1994. I put a 375 hp 396 into my 69 truck. It's still hammering hard to this day with the same set of small block rubbers on it.

The small block rubber mounts bolt right onto the big block. The hole in the frame stand on the big block mounts is real big though. You have to run a very large washer on the mount bolt to keep it from pulling through the large hole. I use harmonic balancer washers. They fit the bolt and are real big and thick. Problem solved....

Thanks for the picture that is what I was wanting to know. I was at Auto Zone tonight looking at the Anchor motor mount book and saw one like that it was only 7.99. Do you know what year small block that is for. I think the part number was a 2282.

67-72 truck with V8, either 307 or 350.

Great info Tx Firefighter! Does the placement of the motor work out for the big block fan shroud? Also, not related to the thread, but is yours a long or short water pump? Mine, like yours, came out of an RV (1979) and has the long water pump. But the alternator is mounted on the passenger side, which is where my AC compressor needs to go. So I've been looking for the correct brackets to mount my alternator on the drivers side, and my AC compressor on the passenger side. Haven't seen anything like your Alt bracket on ebay or the net. Any secrets or advice on that?

Mine is short water pump with all of the correct brackets, pulleys, and fan shroud as this truck would have if it was a factory big block truck. Everything lines up perfect. My hiney still squeeks from what I had to pay to buy all of the parts though. It took me 7 months of dilligent searching all over and online to find everything. The fan shroud was the hardest to find.

The motor mount thing is the only place where I deviated from stock on this deal.

I sold all of my long water pump stuff on ebay to help offset the cost of buying the short stuff.

Does Moroso make the solid frame mounts too or just solid motor mounts for BBC ?? Could I use the solid moroso motor mounts and get original frame mounts for a bbc truck or do I need anything else for the swap ? thanks

I was wondering the same thing as grendel.

My BBC will be punching out at 500+ hp and that was something of a concern to me as well.

We set this one up with the complete correct 68-71 stock mount set, because it looked stronger and more forgiving with the rubber mounts above & below the tower...and they have a steel plate at the top & bottom with a big bolt & sleeve in the center.
This is a built 454 and ran a locked spool in the rear, so the torque was pretty severe. I think I need a longer "Test Pad" for these BB trucks! :)

NOTE: I do have one set of 72 BB MM that I just got. I will sell for: $150 + shipping, if that will help anyone.

If you're really worried about the rubbers ripping, bolt a length of chain slightly loose from the left cylinder head to the frame rail. Leave it loose enough so that no vibrations transfer through, yet tight enough that when the engine torques, all of the slack will be taken out and the engine will be restrained.

Let's build hot rods and not worry about the small stuff.

Funny, talking with Wes, I mentioned that I would do this, if I had to run the SBC mounts on the BBC towers.

I am not finding any BBC mounts around here. I did find a replacement mount, that bolts the block running the bolt sideways instead of toward the block.

I may have to break out the welder and plasma cutter and build my own, at this rate.

BTW, I don't think this is small stuff. I have sent a BBC through the hood of my 69 Chevelle when both motor mounts broke on a launch at the strip.
