700R in..need speedo cable

73 C20 3/4 ton. Install went well on 700R but speedo cable is too short. Can anyone tell me which truck I can get one from that will fit ?

have no clue how long it needs to be, but I replaced my 4x4 k5 cruise cable with a non cruise cable. The non cruise cable is rediculously huge, try any 4x4 due the extra length for the transfer case.

Measure the general length and go to NNAPA and buy a replacement cable that is that length or little longer. Easier to do than crawling around in the salvage yard for someones worn out cable.

Well; it beats the hell out of duck tape and a string.

SanitysBane 07-18-2004 08:55 PM

i would rather use duck tape, balin' wire, and super glue than something from napa!

Where I am from, NAPA beats a pair of Auto Zones and full house of O'Reilly's. I don't like to go to a place that I cannot understand what they are selling. Even the boxes are cheap. PEP Boys has a lot of the really good chrome plastic parts, for those that want to go fast at the McDonald's parking lot. We used to have a decent Carquest, but it changed hands and the guys running it are slower than my buddy's Ford Pinto. For performance parts the Catalog companies are the best for price and availability. The local Auto dealers parts counters try to rip you hard on prices. Caught Chevrolet trying to gouge me for a waterpump on my 95 Impala SS. They had approximately a 200% mark up. Their competitor 50 miles away (also Chevrolet) was on the price line and I bought the part there. It seems that small towns want every dime right away rather than deal in return service. Aftermarket items, such as NAPA, Carquest, Poorman's and the others sell, is getting to be a little lower in quality standards. So to some degree, I agree with you. Napa is the one store in our town that has MOST of what a person may need.

just measure how much longer you will need your cable to be and then go to a speedometer shop and have them lengthen it for you. my cable laid against the exhaust and melted so a whole new one was only like 20 bucks. if you cant find a speedometer shop locally you could probably ship the cable and have them ship it backor something

A cable from an 84 with a 700R4 will fit and look correct.

Good Luck,
Keith

The 700 R4 is an overdrive 350 tranny, so what fits a 350 should fit a 700 R4. It did in my 84 GMC.
